Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleja Shalom.
Aleja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started when I studied theater for a year, the makeup area caught my attention in a different way, I always said when I was younger, I wasn’t the kind of girl who was crazy about makeup, but when I discovered makeup as an art everything changed and I decided to study professional makeup artist and personal and professional image consulting.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy road, I moved to Miami 4 years ago, so I needed to start from zero, I didn’t know anyone, so to make a whole new clientele was definitely a challenge, my advice if you are starting on this journey, you need to be consistent there was a period where I would do a different makeup every day just to practice, and most importantly you need to believe in yourself because there will be times that no one will, especially at the beginning.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
When it’s about makeup, I’m very versatile the same way I enjoy doing a social makeup I enjoy doing an SFX makeup, but I will say skin is what I’m known for, I focus on prepping the skin very carefully using the best products depending on the type of skin that I’m working with.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Growing up, I always saw my mom hustling and working hard, I never saw her taking days off and my dad was sick but he taught me to be positive and to enjoy life, to enjoy every little moment, he always put a smile on my face no matter what, so definitely that made me into who I am now, I don’t have time to complain just to be grateful and keep working!
