Meet Tori Rossi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Rossi.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My mom always said I sang before I even said my first word. Growing up, my father played guitar and sang around the house with my sister and I “backing him up”, if that’s what we should call it. I loved music and singing for as long as I can remember. I joined chorus around 10-11 years old and really starting studying my craft. I started singing the National Anthem around my small hometown of Vero Beach for the annual 5k runs, high school basketball games, the Alzheimers Walkathon, etc. I quickly became known as the “little girl with the big voice”.

Being only 5 feet tall, you can see where that came from. Performing cover songs by Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Kelly Clarkson, I entered and won numerous local talent contests. Combining my talents with the musical abilities of four other musicians, we formed a progressive rock band called Persona in high school. Playing songs influenced by Paramore, Versaemerge and Broadway, we soon became extremely popular in the local community. After high school, I dedicated all my time to further my career in music and joined a cover band who performed at different South Florida venues. While still writing my own songs and recording with a local producer, I also performed at the Miami Music Festival where I met Harold Whaley of Urban Network. With Harold’s encouragement, I continued writing my own songs and performing whenever and wherever possible.

After weekly trips back and forth from Florida to Georgia, I now reside in Fort Lauderdale while writing and recording in Miami. Presently, I perform with my band Vinyl, one of South Florida’s well-known 6-piece cover bands, at several venues and events including weddings, casinos and upscale clubs. Performing four to six nights each week, I have become not only a singer but a seasoned performer. While singing 25-30 songs each night, I have learned to capture the audience’s attention with my quirky, fun and loving personality on stage.

Please tell us about your art.
When creating music, you are telling a story. I, personally, let the listeners in on my deepest, most vulnerable thoughts and emotions (which is not the easiest sometimes). I always like to draw from personal experiences or experiences I have seen friends and family go through. A lot of music nowadays just scrapes the surface of reality, but I have always tried to dig a little deeper to touch that inside lightbulb that we all have hiding in our soul. I want people to understand whatever obstacles they are going through, there is always a reason and a light at the end.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It can be lonely because the “normal” person does not have our crazy work schedules, our emotional frequency, etc. which is unfortunately automatically misunderstood. Most people work 9 am-5 pm, our job can start and end at any time (very often at 2 am). When the average person will be clubbing and partying on the weekends, those are the busiest workdays for us as artists. I always recommend finding genuine friends who understand your lifestyle and, even better, friends in the same industry.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
