Meet Toni McClay of The Baddie Baker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni McClay.

Toni McClay

Hi Toni, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
As a young girl, I have always been interested in creating art with my hands. My passion for baking began when I was nine years old, and I discovered the YouTube channel How to Cake It with host Yolanda Gampp. I was captivated by how she created jaw-dropping edible art and that’s when I decided to give it a try. From that point forward cake art became my thing. I would sit on YouTube for hours teaching myself all that there was to know about the skill, and I practiced it. Soon I got my first cake order and that is how The Baddie Baker was born!

Since 2019, I have been baking for customers and it has been amazing. I am so honored that people love my work and continue to support my brand. In 2023, I became an instructor, and I also had the chance to further my education in the skill by going to school for Pastry and Baking. This journey has been the most fulfilling and it continues to get better with time!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This has not been a smooth road, to say the least.

Running a business is never easy. The main thing for me is that I have been baking for 10 years and for the most part, I just began seeing some of the fruits of my labor. I would say that learning that business takes time to grow into what you want it to has been a struggle of mine.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Baddie Baker LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Baddie Baker LLC specializes in luxury cake art. As a cake artist, I pride myself on making cakes that are one of a kind, meaning that you can’t find them anywhere else. All of my work is handcrafted and done with years of experience. I am widely known for my hyper-realistic cake art.

These are cakes that look like everyday objects or foods! I am most proud of all of the milestones that I have accomplished thus far in business. I have been able to do many things that have been dreams of mine for a while and that is the most rewarding part.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t call it luck; I would call it God’s favor. I have truly been so blessed to be in certain rooms and positions that have allowed me to meet some of my role models as well as excel in my career. I know that this path that I am on has been created by a source greater than me!
