Meet Temeka (Pia) Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Temeka (Pia) Brown.

Temeka, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my nursing journey as a Certified Nurses Assistant in March of 2000. I moved to St. Petersburgh, Fl to try something new and at the particular time that I moved there I came across a nursing facility in Clearwater, Fl, that was offering to compensate per hour if you signed up for the certified nurse’s assistant prep course at the facility. I took an interest in the quick program and signed up. I went through the course in about 2-3 weeks tops, and then went to challenge the exam and my journey began from that point. As time went on over the years I thought I had it all figured out, but when I was about 25 or 26 years old, I met my now fiance and things started to change for me as far as where I needed to be in life.

At some point, after I left St. Petersburgh and moved to Orlando, the thought of furthering my nursing career became a hot topic at home. Not having finish high school, taking care of two small kids, and separated from my ex-husband at 24 y/o, I had to make some hard, but smart decisions for my near future. I had an awesome support system, and I was very determined to set my new goals into motion for the better. I went to an adult school in Osceola County in the evening while I worked two jobs, and received my High School Diploma. Once receiving my diploma, a few more years went by and I was going in and out of school, battling with whatever life felt like throwing at me at the moment, while still focusing on the plan. I knew I wanted my own business no matter the end result, I needed to be my own boss. So, healthcare has always been a part of me so I stayed with it.

I became a Medical Assistant in 2009, then I went right back and registered for the LPN program, but changed my mind at the last minute and reached a little further. I’m proud to say I received my ADN degree in Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 2017 and immediately began working on my company while working PRN at my job. All praise to God, my new company PIAS NURSES ON THE GO has been launched and currently accepting new patient applications. I service all areas, but my home base is in Orlando, Fl. I operate a nursing service for all aspects of nursing ie.,(companion care, homemaker, RN, LPN, CPR, C.N.A. prep courses, Transportation, Daily Activities with loved ones, Respite care, and more. My aim for my company was to offer experiences for loved ones when they are at home. I’ve worked in nursing homes for a great length of time and if I can say one thing that can help a family is keeping your loved one at home in the time of need if you can, and seek for private care at home if instructed by a physician. As a new upcoming nursing service, my journey is so not complete at this point, I have so much more to accomplish. So basically, that’s my story, I hope that I’ve captured enough of my story that the big picture of it all is clear. My future plans, well I plan on continuing my entrepreneur & nursepreneur endeavors and build this empower as they say.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
By no means has this road been easy. Having two small kids, while trying to work two jobs, and go to school, I’ll say the struggle was definitely real. Even now after completing school, working long days, and trying to stay focus on building my brand.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a Registered Nurse. Entrepreneurship is my specialty. I’m known for always having an answer, no matter the situation. PIAS NURSES ON THE GO (mobile nursing service) is what I’m most proud of. What sets me apart from others is if I can’t offer it; I can find someone or THE one to offer it. So, when in doubt, reach out to PIAS NURSES ON THE GO, we are TEAM POSITIVE! All the time.

What are your plans for the future?
Well, my future consists of growing my brand, acquiring some really good patient referrals, and continuing to grow the other businesses that I’m involved in. I’m looking forward to what I call “PIAS POP UP SHOPS.” I’m currently planning a pop-up shop with myself and some other vendors that are going to be pretty exciting.
