Meet Jessica Castro of SweetGem Cupcakes in Miramar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Castro.

Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started baking about 11 years ago when my twin daughters were in preschool. I went to school to be a Graphic Designer and I loved designing invitations and party favors, but my passion was always making cupcakes for family and friends. Every party and school event- I took the cupcakes. Until people started to ask me to make cakes. And then fondant cakes. In 2012, I decided to make my fun hobby a home based business. I created my logo, business cards, website and started learning everything I could about baking then I got licensed and insured. As I started to grow and make bigger, better cakes and hundreds of cupcakes at a time. I knew I was ready to have a shop. I wanted everyone and anyone to be able to have 1 cupcake or 6 or 100. Two years of dreaming/planning/drawing/ crying/laughing/sleepless nights. SweetGem Cupcakes opened its doors November 10th 2017 in Miramar FL

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. It took over a year to finalize plans, permits, construction, and legal commitments that are involved in opening a full bakery. And this first year of being open, there have been several trials and tribulations.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about SweetGem Cupcakes – what should we know?
SweetGem Cupcakes is a Gourmet Bakery that specializes in Cupcakes, Specialty Cakes, Cookies, Brownies, as well as Gourmet Colombian Espresso Coffees and Cold Brew. I take pride to say my cupcakes and cakes are always fresh and made from the finest gourmet ingredients. I make small batches daily to ensure everything is Fresh & Sweet. The customer service I give my clients is also one and only. I become friends with my clients. And it makes me extremely happy when they love the finished product.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My clients are always my #1 priority. Always working my hardest to exceed their expectations is the key to my success.
