Meet The Summit in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Summit.

The origins of The Summit can be linked back to the fall of 2016 in the band room of South Broward High School. Starting their junior year, Timothy LaRoque (who had transferred from Fort Lauderdale High School that summer) and Lenny Arias were introduced for the first time as members of their high school band program. Both involved with all three bands (jazz, concert, marching) offered at SBHS, they recruited fellow bandmates Arturo Llapa and Anthony Bucci as additional members for what would be an ensemble that only performed band concerts/events until they graduated in the spring of 2018. Ever since, they have been performing all over Florida, particularly the Miami area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. One downside to being hungry and ambitious in a younger band is not being taken seriously. When factors that are outside of our control (such as our age) are more important in the eyes of a promoter than others (such as how we Sound, which is what we believe to be the more important), it can be discouraging.

The Summit – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Summit is a Pop-rock group from Broward County. When we perform live, our line up usually consists of Lenny Arias playing the alto saxophone, Anthony Bucci playing the bass, Timothy LaRoque singing and playing guitar, and Arturo Llapa playing the drums. When we get in the studio, it’s a free for all. We have played at such venues as The Ground (Club Space), Revolution Live, Broward Center of Performing Arts and more… we’re very proud that we’ve been able to play at such prestigious places.

We released our debut album “Def Cat” (inspired by our own independent label, Def Cat Records) on September 26th, 2019 (on the 50th anniversary of Abbey Road, as a nod to our biggest influencers, The Beatles) on all streaming services, as well as YouTube, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp. In just nine songs, there’s plenty of diversity, musicianship, energy & substance to keep you enthralled, no matter how many times you listen. We believe that these factors (as well as our unique approach to songwriting) is what keeps us apart from all other bands in the scene. We could tell you more, but what’s the point? You’ll have to listen for yourself to really see what we mean!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of our career would be releasing our album “Def Cat.” Putting out a full body of work after years of prepping for it seemed daunting at first, but we believe it’s been the most rewarding part of our whole journey. Creating a body of work unapologetically for the sake of artistry doesn’t seem to happen anymore, but it has been so rewarding and empowering that… it’s all we long to do.
