So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Owning a dental practice in my own neighborhood has always been a goal of mine. Now that Coconut Grove Dental is open, I am realizing my dream of providing an exceptional level of dental care to members of my community.
I am a Miami native and received my undergraduate degree from Boston College. Following college, I graduated from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco with my Doctoral Degree in Dental Surgery (DDS). After I returned to Miami, I worked in a private dental practice. Today, as the head dentist at Coconut Grove Dental, I look forward to helping each of my patients achieve their oral health goals.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building a dental practice from scratch has been a challenge as well as a great learning experience. They don’t teach you business in dental school! I have spent significant time learning how to run a small business; from construction, to marketing, to staffing, there are many aspects to starting a practice.
Each decision rests on your shoulders and while you can seek advice from experienced leaders, at the end of the day you have to decide what is best for your personal vision.

Coconut Grove Dental is a community and patient focused dental office. The entire team strives to provide gentle and compassionate dental care to each of our patients. Because we see patients of all ages, we welcome every member of the family to our positive environment. We believe in personalized dental care, which means you will see the same dentist every time you visit. As a dentist who is committed to open communication and patient education, I am always respectful of my patient’s comfort and concerns. I develop loyal relationships with all of my patients by carefully explaining their dental treatment options and helping them make the best possible decision about their oral health.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family has been hugely supportive throughout the process of starting my practice. From inspiring me to go out on my own, to guiding me through the world of Miami construction, I couldn’t have accomplished my goal without their guidance and support. A special thank you also to my team members! Andrea Guadalupe is my assistant and wears many hats at the office. Her attentive and caring attitude creates an inviting space for our patients. Karina Boncristiano, my business adviser, and consultant, brings a positive energy that inspires me to continue to grow and exceed my own expectations.
