Today we’d like to introduce you to Skylar Truglia.
Hi Skylar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m 21 years old and I’m an actor. I was born and raised in Boca Raton, FL. I recently moved to Atlanta, GA to follow my dreams in acting. One day a few years ago, I woke up and thought I might like acting so I started taking classes in Miami and fell in love with it. I trained for a while and made many friends who helped me book more roles and get auditions. I worked as a server and bartender to make enough money to be able to pay for my classes and move to Atlanta, I moved here about a year ago. I still bartend to pay the bills but audition as much as I can and look for roles everyday.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being so young and living on your own in a big city is always hard. paying all of my own bills was a struggle of the real world I never experienced until now. But acting is my dream. I know it will be a while until I can quit my day job and put all my time into acting. It’s not easy trying to juggle a day job and chase this goal especially bartending, the hours and long sometimes I don’t get off work until 3am.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
During some days and most nights, I bartend at a bar/restaurant. It’s very high volume. I pride myself on being able to make drinks quickly and efficiently to get customers in and out. As for my acting work, I specialize in film/TV. I recently booked the lead role of a short film set to release in 2022. This was my first lead and I’m very proud of the work I’ve put into it. Action would be the road I would like to go down though. I’ve practiced stunts and rode motorcycles so I’d love to bring that into a film one day. I also think being able to handle guns and ride motorcycles set me apart from most women my age.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that you meet someone new everyday in my city, they are from all over the world. It’s big and exciting, there’s people trying to make it everywhere around me so I don’t feel so alone trying to chase a dream. I also love to try different foods and activities and my city is the perfect place for that, every corner you turn there’s something new to embrace. There’s not much I dislike about my city so I’d have to say my least favorite thing is the traffic of it all. My city is growing everyday and more and more people are deciding to stay which means prices are growing as well.
