Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Fleurimond.
Hi Shirley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As many hairstylist we all have started from home playing with either a baby doll or little sisters hair or better yet being surrounded in a salon atmosphere everyone weekend with your love one’s. By the age of 15 I was hustling and making a small income on side doing classmates and neighbors hair. I stopped hair as soon as I started nursing school. When I discovered the level of responsibility it is to care for a patient, I turned in my scrubs expeditedly.(if this is even a word) Shortly after I had to make a decision for my precious life. So I decided to go back to school to get my cosmetology license. Let me tell you it was definitely my calling. Too of my class and finished in 10 months which cosmetology school is normal my 18 months. It’s been Sophisticated Styles since 2008~ did booth rental for one year and opened my store front right after for 5 yrs in between I then became a Bridal hairstylist because one of my colleagues trusted me for her special day from doing her wedding each year after that I did 10 and then on it’s been on and popping. I have services hundreds of brides traveling in and out of the country with brides trusting me on on their special day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been absolutely smooth … even during Covid it didn’t scare me I was still risking it all just to make the selective ladies who needed to feel good and look good. Thank God. It wasn’t even about money. The smile, the tears of joy is what does it for me. My biggest challenge is content creation. I am extremely busy and I like to live in the moment of servicing a customer/client. They call me the hidden gem because not many of my work is shown thankfully with word-of-mouth and occasionally when I do have a chance to post it keeps my business going.
