Meet Sheynelle Samaroo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheynelle Samaroo.

Sheynelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started back in 2017 when my life turned upside down in a matter of seconds. I was in a terrible, abusive marriage and finally escaped it. I realized I gained a lot of experience during this time and I wanted to share my pain and have a creative outlet. So, I started a blog, which ended up being very cathartic for me. My blog started out as a way to share life lessons and little tidbits I’ve picked up from the Bible, friends, family, etc. But my love for food quickly took over. So, now I consider my blog a lifestyle/food blog, where I share some fantastic food places. I’ve also recently traveled for a month to Europe so there are some travel tips in there too. Whatever it might be, I share on my blog, is always honest and from experience. We all have encountered different walks of life and I love learning about others, so it’s only fair to explain myself to my readers.

Victorious living means numerous things to all people. I think figuring that out is interesting, world-changing and beautiful. My goal is to learn and blossom into a better person every day, in every way. It’s extremely hard to achieve that but with community and faith beside you, it’s a little easier.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I hate to be cliche but as Theodore Roosevelt tells us:

“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”

I mean, he summed it up for me. No. No, it’s not been a smooth road, it has been full of potholes and road blockages. There are have been twists and turns, bridges and hills and I’m still on this narrow path. Most days, I want to sit in bed, eat and become a hermit. There are many moments where I think what I’m doing doesn’t make a difference. No ones reading this, it’s easier to just stop writing, stop pursuing this blog. I’ve encountered unsupportive “friends”, critical people aka “haters” and an enormous amount of competition. There will always be creative slumps, lack of inspiration and low energy. I have to push through it. I will never stop pursuing the goals I have inside of me, regardless of the difficulty.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your work – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I actually teach that’s my job. Therefore, writing and teaching come slightly natural to me. I’m definitely not full of wisdom and I’m sure there are many run-on sentences and grammar mistakes within this article. However, I love to teach in daily life, not just to small children in a classroom setting. When I know something well or have researched a topic, I gain a passion for it and love to share that information. Not because I’m an expert but because I think teaching and learning from others is one of the best ways to gain perspective and knowledge. So that’s exactly what I do with my blog. In conclusion, I’d like to say I specialize in learning. Also, a large part of my blog are my pictures. I only use an iPhone, I attempted a “real” camera but realized that just wasn’t authentic to my style. I enjoy photography and for me, pictures and visuals are vital to understanding what is being said. You’ll see a lot of different pictures on my blog that inspires me and show a visual representation of who I am. I’m most proud when I get a compliment on my blog. I love to know that people are actually getting something out of it. I think what sets me apart is just having a different perspective on life. A perspective of a teacher, a student, a daughter, a divorced young woman, a girlfriend, a fellow foodie. The list goes on and on.

What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
I think the person who gets out of bed every day and goes to work, even though they struggle with depression is successful to me. I think the mother who sacrificed her career to raise her children is successful. I think the father who labors every day for his family is successful. Success to me means achieving a goal no matter how large or small that goal is. Success will never mean finances or degrees to me (even though those are fantastic things). Society puts so much stress on career and money that I think we forget that the everyday person can be and most definitely is successful.
