Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Russell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey with makeup started while I was attending Florida State University. After I graduated, I was able to do something I love, makeup. I had the opportunity to work for a prestige brand, Mac Cosmetics. I am a self-taught makeup artist who is consistently learning to improve my craft. Eight years later, I am able to say I am very happy with the experiences and amazing artists that I’ve met along the way. In 2018, I decided to embark on my own business, SLR Beauty. SLR Beauty caters to all clientele and provides cruelty-free, 100% mink lashes in various styles, from natural to dramatic, a lash for every mood.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say, it wasn’t a smooth road getting into makeup/beauty industry. I was aiming for the popular brand at that moment, which to me was MAC Cosmetics. After getting into the beauty industry and managing my own business, I would definitely say to have perfection and greatness takes time. Having a business is very rewarding, but you learn things as you progress and you improve and learn from your mistakes, which only makes you better. My advice to future entrepreneurs in the beauty industry is to take time to perfect your craft, learn from others who are in the industry and to keep building a name for yourself and to never give up.

SLR Beauty’s mission is to increase one’s confidence through showcasing genuine beauty. To meet this mission, we offer a variety of services and product: Makeup applications, lash extensions, One on One/group lessons, and premium mink lashes for purchase. SLR Beauty is known for its professionalism and communication. I believe with any business, communicating and being professional with your clients is essential and embodies great customer service with responding to inquiries or concerns in a timely fashion. My work speaks for itself, I don’t compare my artistry skills to another artist because each artist is different. My number goal is to cater to my client and their beauty needs.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very shy person and a girly girl, lol. I was destined to be in the beauty industry, I would get my nails done or apply the Sally Henson’s nail kits myself, I enjoyed getting my hair done and just loved making myself look and feel beautiful. Some of my interests were music, nails, hair, and modeling. I am a very photogenic person.
