Meet Shanteria Adderley of Tutoring By Educators, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanteria Adderley.

Hi Shanteria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began when my son was labeled as ESE (Exceptional Student Education) at just four years old. At the time, I was pursuing a business degree in college, but witnessing his challenges and the need for advocacy inspired me to change my major to Special Education. Becoming an educator wasn’t just a career change, it was a mission to help my son and be his advocate during his educational journey. That’s when the idea to support struggling students took root in my heart. Years later, the unexpected arrival of the Covid pandemic turned everything upside down. Our county closed schools, and students—including my son and those in my classroom—were forced to learn online. Many couldn’t focus and quickly fell behind academically. Teachers, myself included, weren’t fully prepared to provide comprehensive instruction online, and this created a significant gap in academic achievement.

It was during these challenging times that I launched Tutoring By Educators. Initially, it was just me tutoring. As demand grew, I hired a reading tutor and a math tutor, and began networking, building relationships with other organizations. One pivotal moment was when someone from the YMCA reached out after seeing one of my flyers. That connection allowed my company to provide reading tutoring for all K-5 students at the YMCA. As we continued to grow, I had to place ads out for teachers. I now have 13 teachers working with me.

This year, I decided to branch out and launched TBE Educational Services, an ESE Consulting and Services Firm. Through TBE, I contract with private and charter schools, ensuring their struggling students receive the support they need and the schools are equipped to meet those needs. In addition, I left my full-time position with the School Board and began working part-time to continue pursuing my vision and sealed a contract with a private school in Tamarac.

Today, I stand as an educator, advocate, and entrepreneur. My journey, sparked by my son’s story, has become a mission to help other children succeed.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There were times when I had to turn away students because I simply didn’t have enough teachers available, or I couldn’t find tutors in the right subject area or location. It was difficult to watch some families struggle, especially when parents could not afford private tutoring sessions for their children. These challenges pushed me to find creative solutions and expand my network, but they also highlighted the need for more accessible educational support.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Tutoring By Educators is dedicated to delivering personalized, one-on-one tutoring sessions directly to students, either in the comfort of their homes or at a local public library. Our entire team is composed of Florida Certified Teachers, ensuring that every student receives expert instruction and support from professionals who truly understand the educational landscape.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My journey would not have been possible without the incredible support and encouragement I received from so many people along the way. Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn, through the Lauderhill Shines Program, played a pivotal role by offering mentorship, guidance, and resources that helped me grow my business and navigate new opportunities. Her leadership and commitment to fostering local entrepreneurship truly made a difference in my professional development.

Equally important were my close friends and family, who not only shared my flyers but also referred clients and consistently uplifted me with their kind words and encouragement. Their belief in my mission fueled my motivation during challenging times and helped spread the word about my services.

I am deeply grateful to my clients—both past and present. Your trust and ongoing support, from sharing your experiences in Facebook reviews to referring others to me, have helped my business thrive and reach more students. Without your advocacy and positive feedback, Tutoring By Educators and TBE Educational Services would not be where it is today.

And last but not least, my teachers. None of this would be possible without my dedicated teachers, whose commitment and passion have been integral to our success. I am especially grateful for my mother, a certified reading teacher who, even after retiring, maintained her certification and now works with me as a tutor. Her experience and unwavering support have been invaluable to both our students and our growing team.
