Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanna J
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It’s always a pleasure to share my story! Although I have always had a love for Film, Writing, & Acting since a young age. I started in the entertainment industry around 2015. Creating my own production company called Ink To Real Productions to help showcase all of my creative talents alongside shining a light on upcoming talent in South Florida and beyond. I spent a lot of time writing, filming series ,short films, and improving my acting chops through theatre and classes. Thom Scott at “The Actor’s Gym” in Atlanta and Charles “Malik” Whitfield have both taught me many skills over the years that I incorporate when approaching any role. Taking the time to really appreciate every aspect of filmmaking has got me to where I am today. From stepping behind the camera to operating the boom to editing films on the computer. Each skill set I’ve picked up along the way has helped me to create my own stories and be able to share them across the globe. If you have something that you are passionate about , don’t let anything or anyone stop you from going after that thing. My dream continues to drive me to go harder each and everyday.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
From grief to lack of funds to mental health issues. There have been so many things that have tried to stop me along my journey. But at the end of day I know that this is what I want and when I set my mind to something , I go after it one hundred percent. When you truly enjoy something and have a love for it, there is nothing that can hold you back. So despite suffering many huge losses over the past year or so, financial issues, & my own personal mental struggles… I continue to go after the dream. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do it all! Lol no seriously I do but, screenwriting and acting have been my main focuses as of lately. To have successfully created an award winning series called “Blurred Ties” this past year alongside some amazing people has been a proud moment for me. I’m definitely even more proud to have set my mind to something and successfully completed it. I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t take “NO” for an answer. I don’t give up when others believe it’s impossible or too hard. I don’t lay around hoping and wishing, I go out and get the job done.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The characteristic that has been most important to my success is authenticity. It’s walking into this industry fully knowing and understanding who I am and what I want to accomplish. Not pretending to be someone that I’m not just to fit in. Being you is what makes you stand out and I think it’s so important to remain true to who you are at all times.
