Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Weisser.
Seth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Gerard (Maione) and I met at Syracuse and moved to New York City once we graduated. To stand out, we spent our spare time scouring flea markets and consignment shops for the perfect pieces instead of shopping at conventional stores. People started to notice, so we started to buy more really cool pieces and sell them for extra money. We started as curators, and we still are – we just have a much larger team now.
We’re celebrating 25 years in business this year. I think we got here because our clients trust our taste, trust our product selection and trust our authenticity. Designers, celebrities and influencers shop with us because we have the best luxury vintage in the best condition and we provide a luxury experience like no other. People are not afraid to walk into our stores. People are not afraid to ask us questions. We take the intimidation factor out of shopping for luxury goods.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many turns and changes in our road over the past 25 years, which we’ve adapted to and used to evolve the business to where we are today. We are a private, profitable company. That’s not something many of our competitors can say. We are currently sold in more than 300 locations around the world, and we are opening a new store uptown in a few months, which will bring us to 6 brick and mortar stores. One of the major challenges we have now is making sure we are sourcing as fast as we are selling. Luxury vintage and resale is a really hot market right now, and we need to ensure that we are providing our customers with the very best product available.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with What Goes Around Comes Around – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a luxury vintage retailer, not a consignment store – we own our inventory and invest up front in every piece we offer. We have an extensive archive with unbelievable pieces from the early 1900s through the 2000s, so we serve true vintage collectors as well as film and fashion stylists looking for inspiration. We have the best network of buyers in the world searching for the best product available. Our buyer’s source from the most fashionable closets, international collectors and industry insiders. We also search all over for vintage Americana like vintage Levi’s 501s, rock tees, and war-era collectibles. Each of our stores is a unique experience because we curate each store to serve its location. We are proud to offer our customers product that they can’t find anywhere else – our luxury collections is something we are very proud of. There is truly nothing like what we offer in the marketplace.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking forward to expanding our national and international reach. We are opening a new flagship in Manhattan this fall to serve our uptown clients. It will be a new concept and unlike any of our other stores. We are also looking to expand our retail partnerships to serve a more international audience. People stop in our stores from all over the world. We want to do a better job of bringing the product to them.
