Meet Sergey Mayer of Perfect Pavers of South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergey Mayer.

Sergey Mayer

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2019, my partner Leo and I acquired Perfect Pavers, which at the time was a small family-run operation. The team worked very closely like a family, which created bottlenecks and made it difficult for the company to grow. Annual revenue was around $6M, but the structure simply didn’t support further scale, employees were overextended, responsibilities overlapped, and processes weren’t clearly defined.

We focused on transforming the company from a family business into a structured, professionally managed organization. Over the course of the first year, we clarified roles, built proper departments, hired additional team members, and created a foundation that would allow the business to expand sustainably.

That work paid off. Today our revenue is approximately $12M, our team is balanced and well-organized, and everyone knows their responsibilities. We’ve been able to consistently grow, take on more projects, and maintain a healthy and positive workplace environment

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely had its challenges. Our team was motivated to improve, but not everyone was ready for the level of change the company needed. Restructuring meant redefining roles, setting clear expectations, and sometimes making difficult decisions. We had to reshape the team, and parting ways with certain employees was not easy.

However, within a year we saw significant progress. We built a stronger, more aligned team, created a healthier culture, and set the foundation that allowed the company to grow in a sustainable way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In Perfect Pavers of South Florida we specialize in large commercial hardscape projects across tri-county. Many well-known buildings and developments in the area feature our work, and we’re trusted by contractors and developers for projects that require scale, accuracy, and high standards. Some of our most distinguished projects include the Miami Open at Hard Rock Stadium, the Tidal Cove Waterpark at the Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, and the Miami Brightline Station & Towers.

We are especially known for our expertise in Pedestal Paver. Our installation teams are one of the most experienced in South Florida, and these systems are commonly used on high-rise rooftops, terraces, and elevated platforms.

What we’re most proud of is our people. We have a strong, skilled, and reliable team that consistently delivers quality work.
This year we also launched our Residential Department, bringing our commercial-level quality and professionalism to homeowners. Our residential clients appreciate receiving the same high standard of service that we provide on major commercial projects.

Our brand is built on craftsmanship, consistency, and trust, whether working on a large commercial site or transforming a private home.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe that risk is an essential part of entrepreneurship. Any business owner operates in an environment where there is uncertainty. In construction, especially with commercial contracts, those risks can be financial, operational, and reputational. We deal with strict requirements, warranties, large budgets, and tight timelines, so strong risk management is a part of our daily decision-making. Over the years, we’ve learned to manage these risks through quality control, clear processes, and a disciplined approach to execution. I don’t think of risk-taking as something dramatic. It’s more about making informed decisions, understanding the possible outcomes, and being ready to take responsibility for them.
