Meet Sarah Jarrett of Salud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Jarrett.

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Salud is a family legacy that began over 35 years ago, started by my father with a simple but powerful mission: to make health and wellness accessible to everyone, especially within our Latino community. My sister, Hilda Perez, and I grew up surrounded by his passion for helping others live healthier lives. What began as a small local wellness business has now grown into a brand that bridges culture and science, all while staying true to our roots.
Today, my sister Hilda and I proudly carry that legacy forward. At Salud.co, we have modernized our father’s vision for a new generation by offering culturally inclusive nutrition education, supplements, and personalized wellness guidance. Our motto, “Rooted in Culture, Backed by Science,” reflects both our heritage and our professional values.
As a registered dietitian, my work focuses on bringing evidence-based nutrition into real, everyday life. But beyond the science, what drives me is connection: connecting people to their food, their culture, and their communities. That is why I also dedicate time to community wellness initiatives in Miami, like with Health in the Hood, a local non-profit that is tackling food insecurity through their community gardens. Salud partners with HIH to teach people how to nourish themselves and their families with the foods that are readily accessible to them.
Giving back is a central part of what we do. Together, my sister and I established the Perez Family Health and Wellness Endowed Scholarship at Adelphi University. The scholarship supports students pursuing their MS in Nutrition and Dietetics who are passionate about serving underserved communities. It is our way of honoring our Dominican roots, our family’s immigrant journey, and paying forward the opportunities that helped us get here.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a legacy business as second-generation owners has been both rewarding and humbling. One of our biggest challenges has been honoring our father’s vision while evolving Salud for a new era. We wanted to preserve the heart and trust that our community associates with Salud while introducing new technology, products, and approaches to wellness that reflect today’s needs.
Another challenge has been balancing roles as both caregivers and entrepreneurs. As a dietitian, my instinct is to focus on people’s wellbeing and connection. As a business owner, I have had to learn strategy, growth, and digital outreach skills. It took time and a lot of trial and error to find that balance.
As two Latina women leading a wellness brand, we have also faced moments where we had to create our own lane in an industry that has not always been inclusive. Instead of seeing that as a barrier, we have made it part of our mission to make wellness look and feel like the communities it serves.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Salud?
In my day-to-day work, I focus on bridging the science of nutrition with practical, culturally meaningful wellness solutions. At Salud, much of my role centers on product development and quality assurance, where I oversee the process of formulating supplements that are both effective and trustworthy. This includes vetting manufacturing partners, ensuring all labs meet strict NSF certification standards, and reviewing every ingredient for both efficacy and transparency. We take pride in knowing that each product we release is backed by science, tested for safety, and designed to genuinely support people’s health.

Beyond product work, I lead our community wellness initiatives, including educational workshops and local events that focus on nutrition literacy, meal planning, and preventive health. Through our involvement in community gardens, I help design and deliver programs that teach families how to prepare and enjoy nutritious foods using ingredients that are accessible and familiar. I also provide one-on-one nutritional consultations, helping clients translate nutrition science into real, sustainable lifestyle changes. Whether I’m developing a new supplement or hosting a garden-based nutrition session, my goal is always the same: to make wellness inclusive, empowering, and rooted in everyday life.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Start with your “why.” For us, our why has always been clear: family, culture, and community. When your purpose is strong, it will carry you through the difficult moments.
Do not be afraid to evolve. Legacy does not mean doing things the same way forever. It means carrying forward the values that matter most while adapting to new opportunities. Our journey from a small family business to a digital wellness brand shows that growth and tradition can coexist beautifully.
Finally, give back as you grow. Success is most meaningful when it opens doors for others. Whether it is mentoring, volunteering, or creating something lasting like our scholarship at Adelphi University, find ways to ensure your work makes a positive impact beyond yourself. At the end of the day, real success is measured not just by what you build, but by how many people you lift along the way.
