Meet Sarah Glass of Sarah Glass Ceramics in Boca Raton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Glass.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been interested in clay, even since the age of 5 or 6. It wasn’t until I was 13 in the 9th grade at John I. Leonard high school that I began to use the pottery wheel. At the time I was a troubled teen and benefited in many different aspects from making pottery. I fell in love with it and dedicated myself to becoming the best potter I can be. Today I earn a living by selling my own work and teaching both private and group workshops.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but a rewarding road. I often travel with my wheel (which weighs likely more than I do.) I have been taken advantage of by multiple studios and have had to sustain myself with many side jobs over the years to make things work.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sarah Glass Ceramics story. Tell us more about the business.
I create stoneware and porcelain wheel thrown vessels for the modern home. I am known for the thinness of my walls in my pottery as well as my experimentation in glaze. I guess you could say what sets me apart from others is that I did not go to art school. I have been increasing knowledge of ceramics on my own for 10 years now.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The amazing support system I have around me makes me feel especially lucky and as though I cannot fail in anything I want to succeed in. I am also lucky to have two amazing older brothers (both creative hardworking individuals as well) and a mother who has supreme wisdom in so many areas of life including art and business.
