Meet Sandy Campbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Campbell.

Hi Sandy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hi yall!! My name is Sandy Campbell an island girl. Born and raised in the Bahamas. I am the oldest of 4 (3 younger brothers). I love swimming, boating, snorkeling, and all things traveling.

I studied navigation and marine transportation at SUNY Maritime College in New York where I gained my Master’s degree and certification as a Merchant Mariner. I have always loved the water so this career path was such an easy fit. I have navigated the world’s largest gas tankers and visited over 60 countries.

A lot of people don’t know this, but I started traveling for work. My love of travel grew roots in the ocean-going liners I have lived and worked on — 1,100-foot vessels that have propelled me from country to country in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.

For years, I traveled around the world, scraping the surface of countries and cultures I would only have a few days to explore at a time. On each of those short trips, I vowed to come back one day to fully explore what these places have to offer.

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, I am no stranger to taking on challenges and breaking down barriers.

What’s really important to me now is “giving people who want to get their feet wet in the traveling pool the resources they need to do that.” I currently operate Sandy’s Suitcase Travel Co, a boutique company that provides travel consulting services, I am a travel coach and I host group trips around the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a black female in a male-dominated industry. Overcoming imposter syndrome. Launching Sandys Suitcase during the pandemic.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an entrepreneur and I currently operate 4 businesses based on the Bahamas. I have been working as an entrepreneur for the past 10 years and I am proud that I am able to create businesses for myself that allows me to be able to live life on my own terms.

What sets me apart from others is my adventurous spirit. I am from an island where people rarely leave or travel to far places and here I am having traveled to over 60 countries and most of them as a solo traveler. I will easily hop on a flight and fly half way around the world at the drop of a hat, and for a lot of people that is scary and intimidating. So I have created resources like ebooks and online courses to teach women how to travel the world safely and to live life on their own terms!

What matters most to you? Why?
Being able to live life on my own terms. Helping my family. Helping women learn that travel isn’t scary and won’t break the bank.
