Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Abrahamson.
Hi Samantha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a licensed Pharmacist, having received my Doctorate in 2018 and working as a Pharmacist for 4 years. I left my job and leaped into entrepreneurship about 2 years ago.
When I was working as a Pharmacist, I was watching my husband start and grow a company of his own. I knew the potential benefits of having a business, but I also knew the hard work it would take and knew that it would be no small task.
I doubted myself a lot in the beginning. When I left my job, I took some time to think about what I wanted my business to be. I knew that I wanted it to be in the health and wellness space. I understand fully the importance of eating healthy, but I also recognize that it can be hard and time-consuming.
There are so many opinions on the internet, that it’s hard to know who to trust. Also, to be honest, I could see that oftentimes it’s hard to get through to your doctor. This all makes eating healthy complicated, and I knew I wanted to make it simple and enjoyable for people.
When I first started my app, I thought I was going to implement it into a fitness studio because I was trying to buy into a franchise at the time. Although that did not work out, I am so thankful because I can see now that this app needed my entire focus to get to where it is today.
When I first launched the app on the app store, it was pretty simple with healthy recipes and custom grocery lists. It has been a lot of hard work, but so rewarding! Now, I am proud to say that we make eating healthy insanely simple with our app completely relying on AI to:
1. Answer any health question 24/7.
2. Provide healthy meal recommendations from any restaurant menu.
3. Turn healthy recipes into custom grocery lists and connect to Instacart for convenient delivery.
4. Provide recipe recommendations for the user’s current menstrual phase.
5. New label expert – find out if harmful ingredients are present in your food!
We have already come so far and I can’t wait to see how many women we help in the future!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Business has proven to be challenging! However, I strongly believe that nothing worthwhile comes easily. What I have learned is that anyone can have a good product, but not everyone can SELL that product. This has been the biggest learning curve for me by far.
In the beginning, I was only thinking about app development. I think that I assumed if I had a good product it would sell. Having an app developed is honestly pretty enjoyable. However, when you launch a product into the free market, where people don’t know you, and they’re just hearing about your product for the first time, they aren’t going to buy it unless it is exceptional. I thought my product was good, and I had to make it a million times better!
This process requires you to put in more work than you ever expected, but it is also SO rewarding because it forces you to push yourself, and your business to the next level, and then some. If it wasn’t for learning/going through this process, the app would be nowhere close to where it is today! I am thankful because I am a stronger person, and my business is stronger for it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Actually Healthy?
Actually Healthy is an app made BY women, FOR women. We are owned by two Pharmacists, one of whom is also a certified nutrition coach. I think this is a HUGE differentiator. These days, there are so many opinions on the internet, that it is hard to know who to trust. Being given misinformation or being overwhelmed can often lead to yo-yo dieting and unhealthy habits.
At Actually Healthy, we know how to make eating healthy simple, and how to provide recipes that get the user looking and feeling their best EASILY, not to mention, we factor in women’s HORMONES! The user can trust our recipes because they all come from a certified nutrition coach.
Healthy is also partnered with another local entrepreneur, Caitlin Spears, whose new course, “The Look Good Feel Good” course is a unique, self-paced four-step program that offers an empowering approach to health and well-being, focusing on building lifelong habits rather than temporary fixes. People who buy her course receive lifetime access to the Healthy app!
Actually Healthy uses AI to make eating healthy insanely simple with:
1. Any health question answered 24/7.
2. Healthy meal recommendations at any restaurant.
3. Actually Healthy recipes that turn into custom grocery lists and link to Instacart for convenient delivery (all recipes by a certified nutrition coach).
4. Personalized cycle syncing recipe recommendations for the user’s current menstrual phase.
5. New label expert – find out if harmful ingredients are present in your food!
We are even offering a limited-time free trial so that the user can try it out first to ensure they like it!
What’s next?
The app has come such a long way already, and the ability to completely rely on AI, providing healthy meal recommendations at any restaurant, and answering any health question 24/7 is pretty new. We also just implemented an exciting feature where the AI will sort through our recipes (over 100 with new ones added weekly) for you, and find recipes perfect for your dietary preferences.
The AI will even recommend recipes based on what the user has at home. Actually Healthy is always innovating and improving. In addition, we also just launched our new label expert feature that detects harmful additives in your food. We are already considering expanding and allowing the user to input their allergies in order to have the AI detect if allergens are present as well!
