Hi Rose, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I founded my brand also my baby in 2017, Ashanti Cosmetics is an African cosmetics brand, with all-natural products based on my family recipes that have been in my family for over five generations with secrets to naturally beautiful skin.
The inspiration for the name comes from the town where I was born Ashanti, Kumasi Ghana. The purpose comes from my son and his health issues with eczema as a child. I looked for many solutions but the real answer was in my family.
My grandmother gave me the balm to use on him and the second day I had already seen how much his skin improved after a week his skin was almost clear so the news traveled and I didn’t want the benefits of this magic balm to disappear, so I started experimenting, 6 years later, I launched and now just celebrated my sixth year as a brand with 14 products, merchandises and make up line. I am now rebranding with new packages and product lines.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My entrepreneurial journey was not easy but my partner, family, and friends have been a real support to me. The process was very long and stressful with lots of hard work and mistakes which I call learning curves.
Being a woman and the sole owner of my brand, I have experienced a lot of struggles personally and financially it has been draining.
I started to make my shop in Budapest where I currently reside part-time and it was the biggest challenge because the pandemic hit right when I was about to expand so it was tough, I had to pivot and act quickly to re-strategize my business, life, and also my home with family to stay afloat in the storm.
