Today we’d like to introduce you to Romina Chen, Lysandra Wu, Devona Wu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Romina, Lysandra, Devona. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our family real estate team consists of three partners. Romina Chen (mom aka MVP), Devona Wu and Lysandra Wu (daughters). We are real estate associates with Luxe Properties in Coral Gables, FL.
Romina Chen, our mother, came to the United States with her family from Hong Kong when she was 16 years old. For decades, she worked in her family owned restaurant business, Wongs in North Miami. She eventually opened up her own successful Chinese restaurant in North Miami Beach named Hong Kong Harbour for over 8 years.
During this time, Devona, older sister, started working for a title company when she was 18. At that time Lysandra, younger sister, was just 9 years old, staying at home with our grandma and attending school.
Years passed and our parents decided to sell the hectic restaurant life that consumed their lives 365 days a year. Our mom submersed herself in the insurance industry for another 16 years working 10-12 hours a day. Devona, left her first title company to work in the title department of a foreclosure law firm during the peak of the collapsed market.
Our mom felt the familiar feeling of wanting something new after years in the insurance industry. She decided to take the leap and got her real estate license in 2011.
As the years progressed, business was picking up and Lysandra decided to get licensed in 2014 right before she turned 21 and joined Luxe Properties with Romina.
Devona has over 17 years experience in the real estate title industry and made her way into obtaining her real estate license and joining The RLD Team right before Christmas in 2018.
We took our first team trip to Beijing, China over the summer to showcase properties from Orlando to South Florida for a luxury property showcase. This was by far the most challenging and rewarding experience we shared together as business partners and a family.
To end this decade with a bang, Lysandra obtained her broker’s license the day right before Thanksgiving.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There will always be ups and downs, pros and cons.
Our team beginning with our mom and Lysandra, was a smooth ride (majority of the time). As a young adult in Lysandra’s early 20’s, she had to acknowledge she had moments of bad attitude that had to be correct along the way.
When Devona joined the team, we had a few, what we like to call “Jerry Springer” moments mainly because of our strong opinions and immense passion for what we do. All three of us have very strong personalities and love to get our point across. We’ve done a lot of self reflecting and get better as time goes. Also, our arguments never lasted long because work needed to be done and belly’s needed to be fed. What better way to bond with family than having delicious meals together.
Now that we transitioned our struggles to triumph, our transactions that we facilitate together are a breeze with many jokes in our daily group chat. This has definitely allowed us to build a different type of relationship out of a mother-daughter/ sister-sister life.
Another struggle we all experience is finding proper balance with work, personal life etc. While we are full time real estate associates, this is not our primary job. Romina is licensed to sell medicare insurance, Lysandra works in an e-commerce retail store and Devona is still working as a real estate paralegal. It’s not easy managing everything but when there is a will, there is a way.
The RLD Team – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The RLD Team is more than real estate agents. We are a dedicated mother and daughters real estate team truly passionate about building a long-term relationship with our clients and understanding our clients’ needs and wants. Integrity, trust and confidence is what our family offers each client. We understand that your home is an important part of your life, it’s where memories are made and can provide for your future. As a team that speaks Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), we assist Chinese investors in residential and commercial properties, as well. The relationships we build with our clients is in the very fabric of our long-term success.
Romina Chen, the mother who carries patience and is the problem solver for the team. She is so good at what she does, we’ve given her the nickname “Troubleshooter”. She’s also the best negotiator, it’s impressive to watch.
Lysandra Wu, the youngest daughter that is the team treasurer and also uses her talkative personality to negotiate. She never takes no for an answer. What can we say… “She got it from her mama”
Devona, the oldest daughter uses her creativity for all the marketing and business building. Also, her experience in title/legal background helps the closing process run as smoothly as possible.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Happy customers- our motto is to treat our business like family.
Most of our customers are referral based. Some people we know, may have met once or twice, or may have never met at all. We know we have done our job when we get referrals, invitations to their family events, house warming, birthday’s, weddings, and even baby showers!
We love what we do and love the relationships we build with clients.
