Meet Adriana Larios-Rivero and Edwin M. Rivero of Rivero Insurance Group in South Miami-Dade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Larios-Rivero and Edwin M. Rivero.

Adriana and Edwin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Neither one of us thought we’d end up owning an insurance agency together. It was 2010 & both of us had recently graduated from FIU. I had just landed an amazing job at NBC Miami in the sales department while Edwin was putting his brand new business degree to work at his family’s tax & accounting business. We‘d just gotten engaged and had grand plans for our married future: homeownership & traveling the world together. We needed a way to make this dream come true and realized that if this is the life we wanted, we’d have to step it up a notch. With an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to make something for ourselves, an insurance agency was born. It started small Edwin at a desk with a laptop in an empty office space working long hours Monday through Friday and Saturdays during high season. I kept my job at NBC because we didn’t want to put all of our eggs in one basket. Self-employment was still uncharted territory for us, so we’d spend long hours focusing on our budding business by strategizing, planning, budgeting and discussing at night then going to our separate offices in the daytime. By 2015, prayers, hard work & referrals from clients who loved & appreciated our work allowed our business to grow big enough for me to leave NBC & finally join forces with Edwin. Our vision was coming to life! As the saying goes, two heads are better than one, and with patience, dedication and careful planning, Edwin and I became successful business owners before age 30!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We were young, married and owned a house so we couldn’t afford to “mess up.” The key to avoiding mistakes is to learn from those who came before you. We always (and still do to this day) asked for advice or help from trusted sources when it came to budgeting and management and learning the insurance trade. We surrounded ourselves with people who knew the business and learned as much as we could from them and put our twist on it. We had to learn the trade from scratch plus manage a business and all the bells and whistles that come with that endeavor all by ourselves. They were completely different but crucial pieces of our puzzle. To put it plainly, we couldn’t afford to fail.

Please tell us about business.
Rivero Insurance Group is an insurance agency specializing in personal and commercial lines (everything except for life & health insurance). We insure homes, commercial properties, businesses & cars. What we’re known for is also what we’re most proud of: the true and personal relationships we create with our clients. What sets us apart is that we become friends with the people who come to us to protect their most valuable assets. Each and every one of our clients is treated as if they were family. Their best interest is our priority and the work we do for them is as if we were insuring our own. Every year at renewal, our clients know that we have worked on their policies diligently not only to find them the best price but to also make sure that they’re adequately covered with a quality company.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As mentioned in the previous questions, we surrounded ourselves with the best & learned all we could from them. Credit goes to our families, clients, & employee. Edwin’s parents introduced him to the world of self-employment and business. My parents taught me management, budgeting, and instilled in me the overall strong character needed to run a company. Our dedicated and wonderful CSR who manages many of our client’s needs – our clients love her! And of course our clients for trusting and choosing us as their agents and continue doing so year after year.
