Meet Porche Sullivan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porche Sullivan.

Porche Sullivan

Porche, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi! My name is Porche Sullivan and I am the owner and executive chef of Jessie’s Southern Kitchen. My love of cooking began as a child, cooking recipes with my grandmother from library books, magazines, and any other place we could find a unique idea.

When I was 9 years old, my grandmother and I found a book called Thunder Cake that had a recipe for a chocolate strawberry cake. It said that a thunderstorm would come about as a result of making this cake and so we did it! And sure enough, just as the cake went into the oven a thunderstorm came along. From that point on, I believed cooking was magical!

In 2019, I left my six-figure corporate job to pursue my passion for cooking. I started cooking for family and friends as a side hustle to express my art and make a little money here and there. Eventually, that hobby grew into more. I felt compelled to decide between keeping my corporate job or pursuing a career as a chef full-time.

Circumstances aligned and very quickly found myself doing private chef work. Over time, I was recommended to cook for larger events which allowed me to move into catering. Jessie’s Southern Kitchen is the loving result of a Southern girl who helped grandma make Sunday dinner every weekend, building priceless memories, just like the memories I will create with your special day!

I founded Jessie’s Southern Kitchen with the idea of bringing our family’s best recipes to the forefront of the local South Florida food movement. We specialize in using farm-fresh ingredients and old-fashioned techniques to create home-cooked meals that are delicious and satisfying.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to running a catering business has been bumpy.

I have been confronted with trying to find how I fit into the culinary world, while also being the CEO, marketing director, customer service agent, payroll manager, photographer/videographer, and mother!

Every time I thought I should give up, I pressed forward and each time there was a reward. Being an entrepreneur takes strength beyond your own. You tap into versions of yourself that you have never before seen.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

We bring our family’s best recipes to the forefront of the local South Florida food movement, by infusing a touch of southern food into every dish. We specialize in using farm-fresh ingredients and old-fashioned techniques to create home-cooked meals that are delicious and satisfying.
