Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Trejo.
Hi Paula, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well… I can walk you through it this way:
from chaos, to listening, and finally, to purpose.
For over eight years, I worked as a radio and television producer, immersed in a fast-paced world of deadlines, long hours, little sleep, and constant pressure. On the outside, everything looked fine. On the inside, my body was slowly shutting down.
After my first daughter was born, anxiety became part of my daily life. Not occasional stress—chronic anxiety that lived in my chest, my breath, my nervous system. When my second daughter was born, my health deteriorated even further. I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and later Hashimoto’s, and my immune system became compromised.
I lived in a body that was constantly exhausted, inflamed, emotionally overwhelmed, and unpredictable. No amount of rest could fix the fatigue. I dealt with mental fog, joint pain, weight changes, and periods of depression that made everyday life feel heavy. I went through endless medical appointments, blood work, biopsies, and evaluations—yet I still felt disconnected from my own body and without answers that truly brought relief.
That was when something shifted.
I realized my body wasn’t failing me—it was communicating. Loudly.
What I was experiencing wasn’t weakness—it was my body asking to be listened to.
I began exploring holistic nutrition, nervous system regulation, and biodecoding therapy. I also returned to my spiritual roots—my parents were Hare Krishna—which helped me reconnect with the idea that the body carries memory, emotion, and meaning. Slowly, I started to understand that many of my symptoms were not random, but the result of years of emotional suppression, relentless pace, and disconnection from myself.
Healing became a practice, not a destination. Nutrition, therapeutic work, pauses, listening, and learning how to inhabit my body again became part of my daily life. That journey led me to study Ayurveda, therapeutic massage, and biodecoding—not as techniques, but as languages the body understands.
After graduating, I began offering holistic massage sessions, working out of my clients’ homes for nearly two years. Those early sessions—one body at a time—taught me something essential: when the body feels safe, it speaks.
Eventually, that path became Amma Therapy Studio. A space born directly from my own lived experience. A place where bodies are not rushed or “fixed,” but listened to. Where touch becomes presence, and healing begins with understanding the story the body carries.
What started as my personal journey back into my body has evolved into a practice dedicated to helping others reconnect with theirs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—physically, emotionally, or professionally.
Reinventing my life while living with brain fog, chronic fatigue, and a nervous system still recovering was one of the biggest challenges. I had to step away from a career that had defined me for years and move into the unknown, without guarantees.
Studying Ayurveda while simultaneously training as a massage therapist, all while raising two young daughters, required a complete shift in how I lived, managed my time, and related to my own energy. There were many moments of doubt and exhaustion, questioning whether I could sustain such a drastic change. At the same time, I carried a deep certainty: my story wasn’t unique, and what I was learning could support many others going through similar experiences.
In the early stages, the work was physically demanding. I spent long days driving across Miami with a massage table, Ayurvedic oils, bowls, and therapeutic tools in my car—navigating traffic, schedules, and logistics—while consciously trying not to fall back into the stress-driven lifestyle that had once made me sick. I became deeply aware that some bodies—and even brains—can become addicted to stress, and I was determined not to repeat the same cycle.
There were nights when I barely slept again, studying late into the night until I eventually certified in biodecoding, a modality that became essential in my work by helping me understand the emotional roots behind physical symptoms.
With very limited resources, I took a leap of faith and invested in creating the studio. What began with uncertainty and risk has grown into a space—a temple of reconnection—where the body can slow down, feel safe, and be heard.
Every struggle along the way shaped not only my work, but my purpose: to show that holistic massage is not simply a technique, but a neurological and emotional experience capable of creating real change when the body feels safe and listened to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Amma Therapy Studio is a holistic wellness studio rooted in the understanding that the body is not just physical—it is emotional, neurological, and deeply intelligent.
What I do goes beyond massage. I specialize in holistic, Ayurvedic-inspired bodywork that focuses on nervous system regulation, emotional release, and listening to what the body communicates. My work integrates therapeutic touch, Ayurvedic oils, sound tools, breath awareness, and biodecoding principles to support the body in slowing down and feeling safe.
What sets Amma Therapy apart is that I don’t approach the body as something to fix. I approach it as something to understand. Each session is guided by presence and listening, honoring the idea that symptoms are not random, but meaningful expressions of lived experience. When the body feels safe, it knows how to release.
I’m especially known for creating a space where people don’t feel rushed, judged, or treated as a diagnosis. Clients often come to Amma Therapy when they feel disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck in chronic tension. The work supports both physical relief and emotional integration.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that Amma Therapy was built with integrity and intention. It was born directly from my own healing journey and continues to grow through lived experience, not trends. Every detail of the studio—from the oils used to the pace of each session—exists to support regulation, safety, and presence.
What I want readers to know is that Amma Therapy is not about luxury or quick fixes. It’s about returning to the body. About understanding that touch, when offered with awareness and respect, can be a powerful neurological and emotional experience. At its core, Amma Therapy exists to remind people that their bodies are not broken—they are speaking, and they deserve to be heard.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time in Choroní, Venezuela.
I remember the sound of the drums, the sea, and the sunsets that seemed to slow everything down. The smell of salt in the air, the warmth of the Caribbean, and sharing the freshest fish with family after long days by the ocean. There was something deeply grounding about that place.
The drive there is also part of the memory. We would listen to Moby on the way, and to this day, certain songs instantly take me back to those moments—the smells, the light, and the feeling of being present and alive.
Even now, if I hear Moby playing, my body knows exactly where it is.
Choroní represents a sense of rhythm, connection, and simplicity that stayed with me. Even now, the ocean, music, and natural elements bring me back to that same feeling. It’s a reminder of how the body remembers experiences not through words, but through sensation.
