Today we’d like to introduce you to Parastoo Majd.
Hi Parastoo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I come from an immigrant family from Iran. I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and went to law school in Northern Kentucky (Go Chase!). I moved to Miami in 2017. I always thought I wanted to do general civil litigation.
After the law firm I was working for told me they were not doing well financially and could not afford to keep me on, I got an opportunity to clerk for a well-known Miami divorce and family law attorney.
After I passed The Florida Bar in 2018, I was offered an associate position at that firm. I unexpectedly fell into the practice of family law ever since. I ended up working for two different family law firms until 2021, until I decided I wanted to open my own law firm.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing has been smooth about the process of opening my law firm, but that is what makes it interesting and unique. I moved to Miami with no business connections.
We all know Miami is a “who you know” kind of place. It took a lot of perseverance and belief in myself to get to the next level. It also takes a lot of hard work, and wearing a lot of different hats to be a successful business owner.
We’ve been impressed with Peak Legal, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My small business is called Peak Legal. We are a full-service family law firm. We specialize in all matters of family law, including, but not limited to: divorce and dissolution of marriage, paternity and timesharing issues, parenting plans, child support issues, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and the equitable distribution of property and assets.
I think what sets me apart from others is my honest and straightforward communication. I hear from a lot of clients who say they can never get in touch with their attorneys. Hearing that feedback over the years, I was determined to stand out. A lot of the conversations I have with clients are not easy, but they are necessary. Clients want and deserve to be heard. It’s vital to my brand to have that open line of communication between me and the clients.
I’m proud to have built a female-owned law firm and one that also services Iranian clientele with my knowledge of Farsi. My brand is built around the passion I have to advocate for peaceful resolutions for my client’s familial concerns.
I want readers to know that it is important to me to help people reach their goals when it comes to their family law disputes. I believe in being there for my clients unequivocally and providing them with tenacious advocacy, while also understanding that minimizing litigation is conducive to resolving.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
Business-wise, I have learned how much we can accomplish remotely. For example, before the pandemic, many short hearings (5-15 minutes) were held at the courthouse.
This caused a lot of added expenses and fees for the clients because a 5-minute hearing would take an hour (or sometimes more) of attorney’s time with travel and wait time. Now, we can attend these hearings remotely and save the client money, while also accomplishing our goals. While I still believe certain events must be held in person, I think the pandemic taught us to be creative without face-to-face contact.
I learned how important my close circle is. We all supported each other and kept in touch to feel more connected. Weirdly, we all got closer while being apart.
