Meet P90 Pope of Mauly World Forever in Lake Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to P90 Pope.

Thanks for sharing your story with us P90 Pope. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a Singer/Songwriter Based out of Palm Beach. I initially had dreams of playing pro-basketball but the idea of doing that for the rest of my life didn’t satisfy me. Growing up, I always had an ear for music but it wasn’t until my sophomore years in high school that I actually picked it up. I’ve always been influenced by melodic composition, I enjoy a lot of backgrounds and live to assemble music. Though I don’t make that type of music, I feel it pushes me to broaden the margin for my own sound. I started recording myself on GarageBand which was something introduced to me by the wonderful Tori Kelly, and since then, I’ve transitioned to Logic Pro and have been growing daily. The concept of being in complete creative control is what stimulated my ideas and drew me closer to the art of sound. After years of recording myself, I knew it was time to hone my penmanship skills. There were times I would read sections of the dictionary, poem books, and sometimes even lyrics from other songs to familiarize my self with a structure of words and how certain words provoke feelings.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle for me was breaking the barrier and drawing the line in a predominantly male field. I often get overlooked and taken less seriously because of the fact I’m a female and of course, it’s in our nature to become emotional, but I knew I couldn’t. So, for me, to armor up against the societal conception of Girl and be brave enough to push through and work past it, means a lot to me.

Losing my good friend Jamal back in 2015 definitely put a pause on my life and career because the loss was so crucial for me and my surrounding circle. He was the dude you can talk to about anything from Erykah Badu to Young Thug. He knew it all. His life seemed just as promising as mine so to see it cut short brothers me till this day. Long Live Him.

Please tell us more about your music, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Music is more than art to me, it’s my GPS. Being independent definitely intensifies the work process but every bit of it is meaningful to my team and I. It’s important for me to be read through the music and reflect honest feelings that I once felt because I can almost guarantee that there is somebody going through the same set of emotions right now. I just want to show people that it’s all about building a better relationship with the human condition that is within all of us.

What makes me proud of the work that we put out is the fact that everything is self-produced, engineered, written and recorded from scratch in my 2-bedroom apartment. Nothing gets better than naturally doing what you love in the comfort of your home. All concepts are from our heart and places of hurt we’ve been able to overcome. As a team, we’ve grown into the best musicians by ourselves, with no one watching.

I feel like the way I Sound, work, and Present myself sets me apart from all the rest. Growing up I had a set of standards to follow, and I feel like you can hear that in my music. That since a child I’ve built this confidence, and dedication. I want my Listeners to understand how important it is to have grit and edge, that only underestimation can stop the weak not the hungry. The message I relay is more profound than what you find these days and that is why I feel I’m different from the others.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the future I see the music industry being more receptive of women. I feel like that’ll definitely shift the energy of the business given that woman are always sold short. It’s a different type of fire in people who have been pushed away for years. So, I’d love to see how that would go.

Also, I can see a lot of tampering with the idea of Hip-Hop Music. A lot of merging and incorporations of different genres and sounds given we already are leaning in the direction today, I can see it becoming normal in the future.
