Meet Oscar Huespe of Retronym Studio in Edgewater

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Huespe.

Oscar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was a little kid, I used to play so much with my dad’s cameras. I was always curious about how those machines used to work with film and mirrors and everything. I started using them as my own for fun, photographing everything that was near to me, never thought I could work to better understand the business.

One day a friend told me about an available work to do on her school that I should be the one to be on the job, but I didn’t even had a professional camera at the moment. I got the job without a professional camera and with the payment they made, I bought my camera as fast as I could. Then after that, the adventure started.

I used to live in Venezuela three years ago. I moved to Miami when I met Marilyn, my wife, who also is my partner at @retronymstudio, she’s an art director, she controls everything of our portfolio and arts from our brand. We started Retronym Studio in Brickell in 2018 from scratch, and now is time to move on to greater spaces and options for bigger, better things. Details go far beyond in this minimized story.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and No. I started working in Miami with no actual clientele and no people who was related to my art. At the beginning was hard to accept that I had to start again from scratch. After a couple of months, I started trusting more into what was important about my art and how possible it could be to become a better one.

Please tell us about Retronym Studio.
Me and Marilyn share a lot of things in Retronym. We try to give our clients the best experience with specialized work and detail talking. It’s so common on big companies to never listen to what the client needs and what you offer them. We are mostly a complete marketing strategy from the digital base. Me, Oscar, as a Photographer, I recommend to my clients every aspect of a photography art project they are making for a brand, and also Marilyn is in charge of creating their branding and webpage, online shopping carts and more. We offer people the possibility to become digital.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Soccer games at my school.
