Today we’d like to introduce you to Olenia Caymares.
Hi Olenia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Olenia Caymares. I am 23 years old and I was born in Cuba. I began modeling at the age of nine. I was very passionate about modeling although back in the day, the industry was directed towards smaller figures. I did not fit in that category, which made me struggle with my body image. I was constantly told by my peers and my superiors that I was beautiful but too heavy. I never got signed to agencies for over two years, and I then decided to not pursue modeling and to continue with my studies. A few years later, I realized that I truly was passionate about modeling and my size was not going to define me. I began training for beauty pageants and I loved having the opportunity to represent full-figured women. I continued taking modeling lessons and attempted to promote self-love through social media.
Fast forward to 2020, I realized that consumers began demanding more relatable bodies and it was my chance to step in and show the world that there is no definition of what size a model should be. I continued building my brand by showcasing my body and myself to help other women like me gain confidence and feel better about themselves. After reaching out to numerous brands and constantly working, I am now opening shows for Miami Swim Week and booking photoshoots all over the world. My goal is for someone to look at me and feel beautiful because they can relate to my image. That is something I want young women to understand. Your size is not going to stop you from reaching your dreams and full potential.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. There has been a lot of ups and downs. From constantly being told no because you’re too “fat” to being constantly judged and bullied by others, it has had a huge impact on my mental health. On my journey, I discovered that I have PCOS. Hence my weight was never going to change so I learned to love the body I was given. I pushed through it and reached the point I am at now because I only focused on one goal, which is to inspire other women like me. It is still a constant struggle because social media is a very dark place but as long as I am transparent with my audience, I can help at least one individual and that makes it worth it to me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in modeling and digital marketing. For a very long period of time, I ran multiple businesses one being a digital marketing agency. I have always been passionate about the business world. I was 16 when I owned my first e-commerce store. My business flourished and I loved the industry but I felt as though I could impact more people being a model and working on my personal brand. I am most proud of the fact that I had the courage to sell multiple businesses that were financially successful in order to focus on my dream to inspire other women. To me, the amount of people you can help is the real flex.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I do not know if I really believe in good luck or bad luck. I believe in hard work, dedication, and sacrifices. I think success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. If you want something bad enough and you are good at it, you will do everything you can to reach that target. We would not appreciate the good days without some bad days.
