Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Short.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with nutrition during my sophomore year of college when I took a Nutrition course that really sparked my curiosity in the field. As a student-athlete, I already had a genuine interest in how food impacts performance, but that class pushed me to want to learn more and further my education. .
From there, I pursued my passion academically and went on to complete a Masters degree in sports nutrition.
After completing my Masters Degree I worked in a nursing home and also ran the wellness program there for individuals qualifying for bariatric surgery.
I continued on working in the ICU during Covid in a hospital in NYC. I currently am a Corporate Wellness Dietitian for schools.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, there were definitely obstacles along the way, especially early in my career . I was trying to figure out where I fit within the field of nutrition. I started in more traditional roles such as a nursing home and in a hospital .I realized quickly that I felt most fulfilled working in performance-based settings with athletes and students. Making that shift wasn’t always straightforward, and it required patience, self-trust, and being willing to pivot even when I didn’t have everything fully mapped out.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Registered Dietitian and personal trainer specializing in corporate wellness for schools, I currently focus on youth athletes and school-based nutrition education. My work centers on helping students and athletes understand how to fuel their bodies for performance, energy, and long-term health in a way that feels practical and realistic in their everyday lives.
Alongside that, I also work with individuals privately, including professional women and busy adults, helping them improve their overall health and build sustainable nutrition habits that fit into their lifestyle. My approach is always about making nutrition simple, approachable, and something people can actually maintain long-term—not something overwhelming or restrictive.
What sets me apart is that I bridge performance nutrition with real-life application. Whether I’m working with an athlete or someone focused on general health, I focus on meeting people where they are and helping them build consistency in a way that feels doable.
What I’m most proud of is seeing people shift their mindset around food—becoming more confident, more informed, and more in control of their habits and performance.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I would definitely say my parents deserve a lot of credit. They were both very hardworking and instilled in me the importance of discipline, consistency, and showing up for what you want in life. That foundation has stayed with me throughout my career, especially during moments where things felt uncertain or challenging.
I’ve also been fortunate to have mentors and colleagues along the way who supported and guided me, especially in the nutrition space. My internship director played a significant role in helping me think beyond traditional dietetics and really expand how I view what’s possible within the field. She encouraged me to be creative, confident, and intentional about carving out a path that aligned with my strengths and interests, rather than staying within a narrow definition of the profession.
