Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Rengifo.
Natalia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Natalia Rengifo, eyelash artist and founder of the Amethyst eyelash extension technique. I’m from Colombia and I moved to the United States in 2015 and I saw the opportunity to grow in this country with my technique. At the beginning was too hard because I didn’t speak the language and I didn’t know anybody. With the time, I started making lashes for friends in a room of my house and then people started knowing about me.
I was not always in the beauty industry; In fact, my previous career could not be more different than what I do now. I am an Industrial Designer and have worked for ten years in the construction industry, and I began to grow in the eyelash industry since 2014 as a hobby. I started with my own brand of eyelash extensions and I really love them and my customers too. Even my customers who moved to a different city or country order my eyelashes and they get applied with someone else.
Last year I started with my own skincare brand, also thinking about the proper care of the eyelash extensions, products to keep the skin hydrated and oil-free so I developed the Amethyst Hyaluronic Acid and introduced to the market in October 2018. I keep working hard for my dreams and always thinking about the best products for my customers. I’m working in new products but I’m still in the process but I will share with you as soon as I finalize.
I did not give up, but I followed my love for eyelashes and here I am today. Every day I feel truly blessed to have found an industry that I love. I am the happiest when I am doing eyelashes and I could not imagine my life without them. When I had my first training, it was incredible but not complete and I became obsessed with my eyelashes. It made me want to share this passion with those who love it too, and over the years, I have known and formed many friendships with complete techniques and related ideas. Of all the world.⠀
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was really hard to start. I moved to the United States in December 2015, I didn’t know the language and I didn’t know anybody except my husband and his family. So I started taking English classes in the community school and started offering my services to my friends at school, I took my first clients in my bedroom or their homes, and then I started growing up. I had few people who didn’t like my process, I would say jealous people trying to give me a hard time but I never give up and here I am.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amethyst story. Tell us more about the business.
My top of the line service is the eyelash extensions, I would say it is my special service and I am known because my technique. I also offer all about skincare services as deep facials, microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and waxing. I’m so proud of my eyelash extensions technique. And now, I’m starting teaching my technique. What sets me apart from others is my customer service, professionalism and my technique.
