Meet Nalene Rampersaud Baker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nalene Rampersaud Baker.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nalene. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Hello, I’m Nalene Rampersaud Baker (@nalene_baker). We can all agree that being a mom is hard. Supermoms is a movement that looks for the positive, finds a solution and becomes a resource to each other. In 2013, I found myself in a new city with a new baby and not so many mom friends. It was then that I founded Supermoms in hopes of meeting other moms, creating new friendships, planning a social calendar for my daughter and guaranteeing naps! Since then, I’ve come across so many Superwomen! I want to continue empowering other women to unleash their powers.

As a 501 ©(3) non-profit organization, Supermoms labor of love in the community goes deeper than just fun playdates. Supermoms won a trophy as one of the top fundraising teams for Tour de Broward, benefitting Broward’s own Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. We plastered inspirational and uplifting quotes in the bathroom stalls of an elementary/middle school for children returning from summer break. Every quarter a birthday party is organized for any children who may not otherwise have a party with lots of friends. And we’ve been recognized in many platforms, such as Florida Association for Nonprofit, GuideStar (2019 Gold), Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing comes easy. However, I’m working with a great group of moms that make it all possible!

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Supermoms is an opportunity for mothers of all diversities, backgrounds and cultures to unify for their children’s happiness and community spirit. We provide families living in South Florida a robust calendar of events, community outings, resources and discounts. We are a certified 501c3 non-profit corporation as of September 14, 2016.

I’m a full-time working mom, but Supermoms is my passion. I don’t do it because it’s easy; I do it because I love it. I truly enjoy where we are going and all the families we have touched. The fact that we are a non-profit, no drama mom group sets us apart.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My daughter and husband deserve so much credit! The reason I started this was for my daughter and my husband has been supportive through it all. I would also like to credit my tribe: Kelly, Karina, Rebecca Raneem and Maria for all the love and support! And of course my family Indera, Nadera, Mary and Ronald.
