Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykola Khodorovskyi.
Mykola, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My wife Mila inspired me to start painting 3 years ago. I never planned to become am abstract painting artist. My story is unique. I was a successful company owner in Ukraine, MBA degree, hundreds of employees. In 2010, I decided to move to Miami. I was impressed by the beauty of Florida and its climate. Through all my life, I have had a hobby – photography. First, I took a camera in the age of 9 and since that, I`ve been taking beautiful moments of my life turning them into eternity – “stop the moment, you are beautiful” – as Goethe wrote. My wife proposed to print my pictures on big canvases and it looked awesome. We started to sell them and to participate in numerous art fairs – Las Olas Art fair, Boca Raton Museum Art Show, Naples National Art Fair and many others. Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach awarded me couple of times as the best photographer in the city and my pictures are being used for posters and magazines. Once my wife said – let`s try to paint abstract copying the underwater photography that I shot. I used water, acrylic and epoxy resin to create unrepeatable flow of blue colors reminding an ocean wave. It came out pretty and the process of its creation was very exciting and intriguing – you never know how it will look in the end. Since then, I can’t stop creating new abstract pieces. I have a lot of underwater and ocean inspired images – I used to be a diver, having had more than 1000 dives. In 2000, I even issued a book about diving in Egypt illustrated with my photographies. So, in my art, I combined two of my biggest passions -water and image creating process.
We started to sell and exhibit my paintings 3 years ago – for now, I’m proud to say that many of them are hanging today in collectors` mansions in West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Boca Raton, Manhattan and Naples.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Artist`s road – it is a way of trials and mistakes and I enjoyed every step that I took this road. All of my paintings are made on handcrafted wooden boards of sizes 60 by 30 inched up to 72 by 36 inches or even bigger. I create every detail of it myself – believe me or not – but I do it all inside my apartment which as you may imagine has been turned into a mess – and my wife is very unhappy about that. I also learned to wear the mask when pouring epoxy resin (so called “liquid glass”) onto the painting to glaze them like the invisible glass and to provide a deep contrast to the image. Resin is a quite dangerous when it`s wet so i`m still coughing.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mykola Fine Art – what should we know?
Mykola Fine Art is a solution for customers who are looking to enhance home with art pieces. We called it “custom wall art design”. We come to the client`s home and proposing to choose Art pieces from my catalogue. My wife fives her own suggestion, she has the sophisticated style and the clients appreciate her opinion. Then I deliver and hang the painting myself – voi las ! – and the customers are happy!
It is very important to mention that every my painting that we sold and hung onto the collector`s wall looks like it was created specially for this house, for this wall and these people. It`s the best part of my job!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife and my Muse – Mila. It`s only because of her I discovered my talent to paint. Every artist has someone special who inspired him and I am blessed to have Mila in my life. Besides, I want to thank Howard Alan Events team – professionals who organize big and famous art shows in the best areas – Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach and others.
