Mykola, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
My name is Mykola Khodorovsky. I don’t like to tell about myself but let me try. I was born in Ukraine in 1969. I never planned to become an Artist but throughout my life I have had two hobbies – Photography and Diving. I used to make thousand of underwater pictures traveling all over the world and even issued a book about diving in Egypt. I managed the big wholesale company in Ukraine and in 2011 I took vacation and spent a winter in Miami. I liked it so much so I decided to move here. I could not stop taking pictures of beautiful nature surrounding me. In 2014 I met my future Wife – Mila. She insisted on taking Professional School of Photography which I graduated in 2015. Then she proposed to print my pictures on large canvases – they looked awesome. Later we tried aluminum prints and it was even better. Mila said – why won’t we sell it? And we started to participate in the weekend Art Shows. I was very surprised when we sold our first piece. I was so happy and proud.
The city of Sunny Isles Beach honored me 3 times as the best Photographer and put my pictures on the cover of magazines and calendars.
One day Mila proposed to paint in blue Acrylics on canvas – we tried to copy my underwater picture. It was so exciting! Since that I haven’t stopped. Painting is my life. I wake in the morning thinking of it and going to bed thinking of my next painting. I devote my soul in every piece that I create.
With every painting, I am enhancing my style. I paint American symbolics and Ocean Inspired Abstract Acrylic pieces on handcrafted wooden panels with 2 inches frames painted in gold. All of my Artworks are covered with epoxy resin and sometimes I mix epoxy, acrylics and others solutions.
Can you talk to us about how the COVID pandemic affected your art?
Due to COVID19 all the Art shows were canceled for 2020 season. It was very frustrating. 2021 Art season is slowly reopening and I am impatiently waiting for the Las Olas Art Fair in Fort Lauderdale this October.
What are you focusing at when creating your Art? What brings you inspiration?
Synergy of my biggest life passions – underwater and photography. I love the process of handcrafting. I enjoy the process of creation flow abstract using all shades of blue acrylics and epoxy resin.
What are you near team plans and Art projects?
My dream is to open the Art Gallery in Miami Design District to exhibit my American Flag Collection. It will fit the spirit of Miami Design District a lot. Also my goal is to increase online sales at mykolafineart.com which we have launched recently.
It was so great to reconnect. One last question – how can our readers connect with you, learn more or support you?
