Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Rodgers.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved to sew. Both of my grandmothers were seamstress in their spare time and gave me my first sewing machine. In high school was when I really decided to develop my craft more and perfect my sewing skills. Once in college at Florida State University, I earned my Bachelors in Retail Merchandising and Product Development. During my sophomore year, me and my boyfriend at the time were supposed to go to an All white party and of course, he told me at the very last minute! No time to shop or order anything and run into the chance of someone having on my outfit.
So I promptly ran to Joann’s Fabric got a yard of white fabric and made my first custom dress in about 30 minutes! The rest is pretty much history. I went on to design and make custom prom gowns, flower girl dresses, custom club dresses and much much more. I also decided to go back to College for my Masters and received it just last year during a whole pandemic in Textile Apparel and Entrepreneurship. I feel that the skill set and work ethic I have developed over the years has been very instrumental in my business. Although I am still sewing and making custom apparel, I recently decided on a new business venture building my brand more and turning Morgan Madonna into a Fashion House. I am launching my Luxury Sleepwear Line (Cool Silk by Morgan Madonna) this June 2021. I am thrilled and excited to offer a new trend to the Apparel Industry because who doesn’t love sleepwear. My line will be for the whole family, young, old, ladies and gentlemen. It is a way to bring fashion and intimacy back to the bedroom as well as great for out of town baecations, vacations, girls trip, slumber parties, bridal party, as well as bachelorettes. I can’t wait for everyone to see what I have been working on and have the opportunity to bring Cool Silk home with you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business and being an entrepreneur was not easy! In fact it may have been one of my most difficult roads I’ve traveled to date. I am a creative I love to design and create and I do this with great passion. But the business analytics and marketing and logistics can make things a bit trying. I have learned for myself that having a team is crucial. This truly allows me to be as creative as I desire without all the stressors of entrepreneurship. Just allowing me to focus on my target market and allow my designs to flow freely. I also have learned to be more patient. The talent and skills are there relax more and go with the flow. Everything is already working for your favor.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am also a proud member of The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Sewing is my passion I specialize in Women’s custom clothing but have spread my roots into children’s and as well as men’s custom apparel. I am thankful that God has provided away for me through my talents and purpose. I have also been fortunate enough to have my custom M-Bellish shorts sold in a Boutique (Gypsy Rose) during last year and we have acquired an ongoing business relationship that I am most proud of.
The pandemic really helped me refocus and tackle my goals head-on! I was able to graduate with my Master’s in one year completely debt-free. I was a full time graduate student as well as worked full time and launched my business almost simultaneously. What sets me apart from others is that I have studied my craft and I never stop learning I allow myself to be a student first in a lot of aspects of my life because I know that I don’t know it all. I have accomplished so much in such a short period of time. I am a self-taught designer and seamstress that can create pretty much anything I see and can do it in record time. I am passionate about what I create and want everyone to feel loved and beautiful in every piece.
How do you define success?
Success to me is waking up everyday and having the opportunity to do what you love in whatever capacity that means. I wake up and feel blessed to be a creative and designer and share my talents. I have came along way from sewing in my bedroom of my parent’s home till now seeing my very own custom designs in Boutique Storefronts.
