Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Dorsett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ll keep the detail relevant to how Zen Zone Miami came to be! In early 2017, I started looking for a commercial property to purchase. I wanted a place in my community where artists could share their gifts. A multi-purpose space where I could share my passions and support other people aligned with them as well. My passions are art, community, technology, and sustainability.
I came to realize that all of the properties where I wanted to be I could not afford. The area near my home is rapidly developing. For a while, I became discouraged until I took a small business class where I learned a lot of useful information. I realized that if I could prove out the business model, I likely could get access to other means of financing.
I began to convert specific areas of my home to be used as a venue space. I had a brief setback when Hurricane Irma came last year, but things are moving forward step by step! Zen Zone Miami has held multiple classes and workshops, we have helped many artists share their gifts and we are growing every week!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes, I have had many struggles, but I look at them as learnings, and I know that most things worth fighting for do not come easy.
Please tell us about Zen Zone Miami.
Zen Zone Miami is a space for the community to gather and grow. Every artist that shares their gift in our space also gets a business strategy consultant. We sit with them and talk about the goals they have for their business and how we can help them achieve their goals. We encourage our artists to work together, attend each other’s events and do cross promotion. It’s a team effort. We are a community.
We are known for being transparent and open-minded.
We are most proud of our ability to think outside of the box and innovate to problem solve.
