Hi Minette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m what you call a true Miami native, born and raised on Miami Beach. I attended Miami Country Day School, graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in economics, spent some time living and working in London, Chile and NYC, then got my MBA at Duke University with Merit Scholarship. As a young girl, I remember always watching my mom, Ida Schwartz, while she juggled carpool’s and doctor’s appointments with her successful real estate career. She was able to raise my sister and I while also dominating in her business.
I admired her drive and I loved that every day she got to work with people to help them find their dream home. For most people buying real estate is one of the biggest decisions and investments they’ll ever make. Your home is where you build memories with your family and live life. There’s something magical and fulfilling about being part of that – and helping make the process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. When I moved back to Miami after getting my MBA, I knew I wanted to join my moms team – it’s been non-stop ever since!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You know that windy road in San Francisco, Lombard Street? That is real estate every day, it’s all about highs and lows. No deal is ever the same, each has its own blessings and challenges. For me, the most challenging part is when you constantly give your all, and the deal doesn’t work out. In real estate, like in many businesses, you can’t will the change. Sometimes you can work work work, but you can’t change the outcome. I recently lost a deal that was $10M+ and it’s sometimes difficult to put things in perspective and not drag yourself down. This business has its ups and downs, so it’s important to brush off the disappointments and not harp on them. Learn from the experience, keep pushing forward and focus on the long term. A day after that deal fell through, I signed up a big new listing.
