Meet Michi Sanz of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michi Sanz.

Hi michi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Michi Sanz is an emerging Latina artist, songwriter, and creator recognized for her authentic voice within Spanish-language alternative rock. She discovered her passion for music at just six years old and later studied at Miami Arts Charter School.

Influenced by 90s rock and pop punk, her music connects with a new generation through honest, emotional songwriting that reflects real-life experiences. Throughout her career, she has performed at major international events such as SXSW and the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) in New York, while also bringing her music to cities including Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., and New York City.

Michi has been recognized by outlets such as Rolling Stone, Billboard Latin, and the Los Angeles Times, which have described her as “the new voice of Latin Rock” and part of “the new generation of Spanish-language alternative rock.” In 2025, Rolling Stone named her one of the “Artists to Listen To,” while Billboard Latin highlighted her as one of the artists to keep on your radar.

Beyond her work as a performer, Michi has made history as the first Latina artist to release a Vocal Pack on Splice, reaching the #1 spot on the platform. She has also participated in songwriting camps for Apple Music and Spotify for Artists, and collaborated with global brands including Verizon, Pandora, Cartier, and Billboard.

Today, Michi Sanz continues to establish herself as one of the most promising voices in Latin alternative music, bringing a fresh, fearless, and emotionally driven perspective to the genre.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many independent artists, I’ve faced a lot of challenges throughout my journey — from balancing the creative side with the business side of music, to funding projects independently and learning how to navigate the industry on my own. There were also moments of self-doubt, rejection, and uncertainty, especially as a woman pursuing alternative rock in the Latin music space, which is still a very niche genre.

At the same time, those struggles shaped me into the artist I am today. Every obstacle pushed me to work harder, stay authentic to my vision, and build a deeper connection with my audience through honest music and storytelling.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist, songwriter, and creator within the Latin alternative rock space. My work focuses on creating honest and emotional music, blending influences from 90s rock, pop punk, and alternative music with deeply personal storytelling. I also specialize in songwriting and building authentic connections with my audience through vulnerable lyrics and relatable experiences.

One of the things that defines me most is building my career independently while creating space for a different kind of sound within Latin music. I’m especially proud of becoming the first Latina artist to release a Vocal Pack on Splice and taking it to the #1 spot on the platform, as well as performing at major events like SXSW and LAMC, and collaborating with brands and platforms such as Gibson, TIDAL, Verizon, Spotify, and Apple Music.

What I’m most proud of is the emotional connection my music creates with people. I often receive messages from listeners saying that a song helped them feel understood or less alone during difficult moments, and that means everything to me.

I believe what sets me apart is authenticity. I’ve never tried to follow trends or fit into a specific formula. Instead, I’ve focused on building a genuine artistic world where I can combine the energy of rock with emotional vulnerability and a feminine perspective that still feels rare within the Latin alternative scene.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always very creative, emotional, and curious. Music became a huge part of my life from a very young age, and I was constantly writing, singing, and finding ways to express myself creatively. I think I’ve always been someone who feels things very deeply, and that naturally translated into songwriting later on.

Personality-wise, I was definitely a little introverted at times, but very passionate about the things I loved. I spent a lot of time listening to music, discovering bands, watching live performances, and getting inspired by artists who weren’t afraid to be different. I was also very determined — once I realized music was what I wanted to do, I became really focused on building a path for myself, even when it felt uncertain.

I’ve always been drawn to art that feels honest and emotional, and I think that shaped not only the music I make today, but also the person I became.
