Hi Melissa , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Miami to immigrant parents from Guyana and Trinidad. I attended the University of Miami and now work in West Palm Beach.
My legal background is diverse. I previously represented large businesses in commercial litigation cases, and Chapter 11 bankruptcies. I now handle trademark and business matters for new and established businesses, small and large.
I find that my background in litigation helps me prepare the best trademark applications and contracts for my clients.
I also write weekly on trademarks and West Indian history on my two websites.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Some of the biggest challenges came from the sheer volume of studying required at every stage — from the LSAT to law school finals to preparing for the Bar Exam. Each milestone demanded a different level of discipline, focus, and sacrifice. There were times when balancing coursework, deadlines, and life outside of school felt overwhelming, and moments when exhaustion made it hard to keep going.
But those experiences also taught me resilience. I learned how to manage stress, structure my time, and push through even when the pressure was intense. Through consistent hard work and a commitment to my long-term goals, I was able to stay focused and ultimately succeed. Looking back, the struggles were challenging, but they also shaped me into a stronger, more determined attorney. Keep going!
