Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa McIntosh.
Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Health and wellness have always been important to me. I worked in the mental health field for quite some time, however, I think after having children and dealing with health issues of my own, I started spending quite a bit of time digging deeper, especially into nutrition. My husband started to notice how interested I was in health and nutrition and gifted me a nutrition course.
After completing the course I decided this was definitely for me, so I went back to school and completed a holistic nutrition course. Today, I am a holistic nutritionist, health and wellness coach, and autoimmune nutrition specialist. Not everyone gets to have a career that they love, and I am so grateful for that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything has its challenges, it was hard to go back to school and start my own business, especially while catering to two children. Sometimes, I felt burnt out or like I was too old to go back to school and just wouldn’t succeed especially at this stage in life.
But despite all this I cannot complain, I had the support of my husband and my kids. They were so proud of me and always supportive and that’s what pushed me. I love what I am doing so that makes me want to continue and strive to do better.
We’ve been impressed with Imperfect Wellbeing LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Imperfect Wellbeing LLC offers health and wellness coaching. We implement lifestyle changes to help people reclaim their health and their life. At some point many of us, me included, have felt like our health is spiraling downward and unfortunately, it’s the hardest thing to figure out what will help, especially if you’re living with chronic Illness.
Sometimes even when we think we know what we need, making changes and sticking to them seems impossible. Having someone to help you put the pieces together provides you with the support, accountability, and encouragement to achieve.
I generally work with individuals with chronic illnesses, especially individuals with autoimmune diseases. The program I offer focuses on improving health while honing in on key areas like immune system support, stress management, liver support, and gut health. My clients come to me with all sorts of symptoms like digestive health issues, skin issues, fatigue, and chronic inflammation.
They also have many different health goals, some want to learn how to eat for their particular health issue, help implement an exercise routine, or learn to manage stress, some need help losing weight with chronic illness or some need a total health overhaul. As a holistic health coach, my focus is on all these areas, because I believe that if one area is out of balance this could affect your overall health.
I am proud of the business that I have built. But, I am most proud of the success stories of my clients. Their success makes it all worth it. I want people to understand that they can make real changes that work for their life and particular situations and that they can focus on their health and well-being without feeling like they have to be perfect. This is what my brand is about.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I believe that everyone has a role or a part to play in their lives, families, and communities. I am supposed to help people with their health. That’s my role. I believe that because I love it and I have been blessed with the opportunity to do it. I am lucky to have found something I love to do and I can follow that dream.
