Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Freydell.
Hi Melissa , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We’ve been friends for over 16 years, and despite our different personalities, we’re the perfect complement to each other. Both Colombians, we’ve lived abroad for the past 8 years. Our careers have taken us through diverse industries and countries, giving us a broad perspective on business strategy.
The idea for Ímpetu Consultoría was born during the pandemic. I was in Miami, and Pam was in Berlin. We were working on an online course project, needing to come up with something practical and impactful. Amid uncertainty, we realized the most valuable thing we had to offer the world was our knowledge and experience.
With over 14 years of corporate experience in commercial, marketing, and innovation roles, we saw an opportunity to help women entrepreneurs and leaders by sharing the tools and methodologies we had learned in big companies, adapting them to the needs of smaller businesses.
Both of us had been fortunate in our careers, and we felt a strong desire to give back. We’re firm believers in the transformative power of women supporting women, and how that can positively impact society. This became the core of our mission: empowering women to become confident, strategic business leaders.
A year after starting this journey, Ímpetu Consultoría became a reality in the U.S. After working across 12-hour time zones (Pam moved to Vietnam in 2021), and balancing work with motherhood, we found our rhythm. Today, we focus on two main lines of business: strategic consulting for small and medium enterprises and mentoring Latina women entrepreneurs on pricing strategy and profitability.
Our purpose is simple yet powerful: we aim to help more women feel empowered, proud of their entrepreneurial roles, and confident in leading a prosperous and profitable business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Entrepreneurship isn’t a road that’s already paved; it’s one you build as you go. And that’s what makes it so exciting—nothing is set in stone, unlike the corporate world we came from. I wouldn’t say it’s been “difficult,” but it’s definitely a unique journey filled with constant learning.
One of the biggest challenges has been managing the 12-hour time difference while juggling our other responsibilities. Pam is still working full-time in the corporate world, and both of us are balancing motherhood, especially in a foreign country without the support system we’d have back home. While we’ve learned to find our rhythm, there are times when we’re full of ideas, and it can be frustrating not to bring them to life as quickly as we’d like due to the lack of time and the challenges of managing it all.
Another challenge is that there are so many consultants, coaches, and mentors out there today. With the digital business boom, there’s this constant pressure to stand out. Sometimes, we see others moving faster than we are, and while it’s easy to feel the pressure, we’ve learned to focus more on being inspired by others than comparing ourselves to them.
Being part of a supportive entrepreneurial community has made this journey much easier. We’ve learned so much about systems, technology, productivity, personal branding, launches, and more. Even though we have a corporate background, the pace of the digital entrepreneurship world is a whole different ball game. It’s not just about delivering a service, but also mastering the back-office machinery to make yourself visible.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ímpetu is a strategic consulting firm dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs and business leaders build successful, profitable businesses, so they can grow and thrive in a structured and sustainable way.
What makes us most proud is the impact we’ve had on women entrepreneurs. Seeing how our clients gain confidence in their numbers and feel empowered to make strategic decisions that drive their businesses forward is what truly fuels our passion. We’re proud to know that Ímpetu is a trusted partner for women looking to grow and thrive, and that we’re playing a role in helping them lead profitable, impactful businesses.
We have two main areas of focus:
Personalized Business Consulting for Small and Medium-Sized Companies: We help businesses organize their sales and marketing processes so they can grow in a sustainable and profitable way. We both, Pam and myself (meli), work together on this, bringing our different experiences in sales, marketing, and innovation to each project. We complement each other’s strengths and expertise to offer the best support adapted to each business.
Mentorship and Workshops for Women Entrepreneurs on Pricing Strategy and Profitabilty: I am in charge of leading these mentorship sessions and workshops for women entrepreneurs. I also handle communication, which is why you’ll see me more on Instagram, where we connect with our community. Since moving to Miami, I left my corporate career behind and have been fully focused on growing Ímpetu.
What makes us different is our 14+ years of international experience, which gives us a complete business and strategic vision. We are also known for our friendly and practical approach—we teach in a simple, easy-to-understand way, using tools that anyone can apply. Our goal is to empower women in business by giving them the knowledge and practical tools to believe in their own value and take their businesses to the next level.
We offer personalized one-on-one mentoring, group workshops, and strategic consulting services to help women grow and succeed in their businesses.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was playing role-playing games with my sister and cousins. We would set up a little classroom, with dolls and stuffed animals sitting in rows like students, and we’d use a chalkboard to teach lessons. I remember spending hours pretending to be the teacher, explaining things and making up stories. There was something about it that felt so natural and fulfilling.
Looking back, I realize that teaching has always been a part of me. In almost every job I’ve had, I’ve ended up in some kind of teaching role, whether it was leading training sessions or guiding teams. And now, as a mentor and consultant at Ímpetu, I’m still doing what I loved as a child—helping others grow and learn.
