Thanks for sharing your story with us Melissa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Three years ago, I had an idea to develop an apparel line based on my lifestyle; fashion and fitness. Having a closet filled with various athletic brands and a pretty dope sneaker collection. This inspired me to start Sexy Sweats, a women’s athleisure brand, but in this case, it would be my rules, my style and of course my brand.
In order to make my vision a reality, I had to do research on the sportswear industry, identify my target audience, find funding opportunities and connect with the right group of experts in business. The creative side of the business was easy. As a Creative Designer, I enjoy the creative process, designing the pieces and managing the production. As the CEO, there is always an abundance of information to be learned. Sexy Sweat’s journey has been extremely successful. My drive and persistence continue to lead me to right places and the right people. Each day it’s about the hustle and building the brand.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anything worth having does not come easy. There is no such thing as smooth roads in business. We have experienced the highs, the lows and everything in between. Sometimes it’s extremely fun and other times it can be terrifying. As a first-time entrepreneur, I had to take the time to learn everything about the business, which also helped me learn more about myself. As the business grew, so did I.
In addition to learning about business, I had to learn everything I could about the sportswear industry that I had no clue of. We have been in business for a year and a half now and we still have so much more growing to do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sexy Sweats story. Tell us more about the business.
Sexy Sweats is a cutting-edge women’s activewear and athleisure line, introducing “She Is” as the First Official Collection depicting my personality and style. I designed each individual piece with the intention of making bold statements with vibrant colors, daring designs and innovative, intricate stitching with slimming illusions; while enhancing a women’s silhouette frame. My goal is to aspire women, to have the confidence to wear comfortable, form-fitting pieces; and creating much-needed support while training. This is not just your average Fitness Apparel Line, but rather a movement for women to showcase their confidence, sex appeal, and athletic lifestyle.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t use the term luck throughout my journey. But that’s what some may call it, especially when I share my story. My drive, persistence and hard work have lead me to the right people and the right places in both my personal life and business career. I am a firm believer of positive affirmations, the power of the mind and voice. So I speak abundance into my life, I read self-help books, and also meditate daily.
