Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa “Addams” Mederos.
Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started mixing my own henna paste and henna designing at the age of 12. The essential oils and intricate designs were very therapeutic and put my mind at ease. I loved how every design I drew was totally different. It gave each one a personality of its own.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
At first, the most prevalent obstacle was obtaining quality henna powder. Back then, it was hard to find on the internet and my only resort was to buy from Asian supermarkets or ask a friend traveling to India to bring some. Over time, thankfully quality henna powder became easier to find over the internet. Another obstacle I faced was the balance between my social life and my artistic life. It became harder and harder to organize my time as all I wanted to do was stay at home and practice until I worked up the courage to advertise myself as a professional henna artist.
Please tell us about Henna Mystic.
I am called the Henna Mystic because I view henna not only as an art form, but as a channel for healing others on a metaphysical level. Henna is a sacred practice with auspicious origins, it was always used during celebratory times as a symbol for love, protection, and prosperity. I always design the mehndi (henna tattoo) in person, as every person has a different energy. The act of adorning someone with henna is a lucrative spiritual ceremony.
The combination of touch and art create a relaxing environment in which it becomes easier to read others and thus helping them spiritually. It is a common request that my returning clients bring their natal charts to henna sessions so I can give them astral transit readings.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly don’t think much of it. I would have traveled more and gone further with my art.
