Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Bellavita.
Mary, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was working a 9-5 Job and I wasn’t happy. I saw no future with the company and did not look forward to going to work each day. I knew I needed to do something that made me happy, I then decided with the aid of my boyfriend, I would pursue modeling and personal training full force. I studied hard and earned my ISSA personal training certification, all while reaching out to photographers for photoshoots to help grow my Instagram and modeling portfolio. Over the course of the next three years, I continued to study trends and grow exponentially while gaining business opportunities now afforded to me due to my large following. This came in the form of more personal training clients and sponsorships, as well as selling my own merchandise. I am now capitalizing on those opportunities and continuing to expand my social media brand into other avenues as well as working towards expanding my merchandising.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were some tough patches where I felt I was paying for promotion and photoshoots and not gaining much of that investment back monetarily. However, once momentum picked up and my social medial began to gain a large following the investments finally paid off. Content creation is not by any means cheap, nor is paying for promotion with other pages and sources, so it can feel overwhelming when money is going out faster than it’s coming back in.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Bellavita Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Bellavita Fitness is under the umbrella of all things Mary Bellavita, ranging from products, personal training, subscription sites, social media revenue and another influencer coaching. I am known for my curvy figure and have been able to capitalize on that by marketing my potential audience and using my figure as motivation for my current and future clients.
As a company, I am proud to be able to connect my audience with valued brands that genuinely offer a benefit. I pride myself on having integrity that if I endorse something, it is because there is value in it. I only promote brands that I believe in regardless of what is being offered from them, as I do not want to falsely influence or market my audience with products I don’t believe they’d benefit from. I believe this helps set me apart as I more often decline offers if I do not feel there is a true benefit.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say that I don’t really believe in luck. I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason. I also believe that everything can become some form of an opportunity, even if at first it seems to be devastating. Had I not been so disappointed and frustrated with my corporate employment, I never would have entertained venturing on my own to run my own business. I am now not only far happier but have afforded myself financial freedom that would have taken me years had I stuck in the rat race. One could argue I had bad luck at my old job but in truth, that was the motivation that I needed to leave.
