Meet Marlon Jones of LitoAintShit in Palm Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Jones.

Marlon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a local artist born and raised in South Florida in Riviera Beach. Growing up, I was more interested in basketball than being a rapper but I always wrote lil verses and stuff with my spare time. When I got a lil older, I moved out to DC for school but then dropped out and had to just start surviving and I started writing more like as an outlet and it started getting real good but it was just whatever to me cause I had bigger concerns. Around 2014 I met this engineer named Klassic who was looking for artists around Maryland but it wasn’t a lot of people hype to work with him cause of how he looked. They was a bunch of hood niggas and he was this fat, white, nerdy-looking kid in his mama basement but I was like fuck it lets work and that’s when I really started to develop as an artist. Around 2016 I moved back home and just been perfecting my craft ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been nothing but a smooth road, but I feel like a lot of the music is just a result of some of the struggles. Some of the biggest ones really come in keeping the right head to make choices now. It’s a lot of people around who all got opinions but not all of them got your best interest in mind. The biggest physical struggle has probably been moving from DC back home, the fact that I was moving home made it a little easier but changing markets is always annoying especially when you’re moving from such a big city to a small one.

LitoAintShit – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I make music for people who went to college and realized they better off selling drugs. I’m known for lyricism and personality; I’m out of pocket in real life and do a good job of painting that picture in my music. At the same time, I have dimensions that are apparent. It’s raw talent but its been polished for a long time and that’s what I’m most proud of; I see a lot of one or the other but I’d be a good rapper if I didn’t put in effort but I put in more than anybody I know. I’m a student.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Peace of mind. The ability to look in the mirror and sleep at night. A certain level of material success is necessary for that but the extent is subjective. I feel like I’m successful when I can say I’m successful and genuinely feel like I’m telling the truth, in MY head, I’m not sure exactly when that’ll be. I try to acknowledge every step of the way though, I take notice every time I do something I never did before.
