Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Vila.
Maria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a high school dropout who found my way back to education, earning my GED, a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, and ultimately an MBA in Operations Management. I began my career at the very bottom of the corporate ladder and worked my way up through dedication and persistence, achieving the role of Senior Billing Manager in 2024.
An unfortunate event became the catalyst that pushed me to step out on my own. That turning point led me to start a new business alongside my husband, Edgar, combining our experience, resilience, and determination to build something of our own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all. The journey has come with its share of challenges, particularly when it came to securing working capital and obtaining loans to purchase the machinery necessary to operate and grow the business. As a new company without an established track record, accessing traditional financing was difficult and often required creativity, persistence, and personal sacrifice.
Despite these obstacles, each challenge reinforced our resilience and strengthened our commitment to building a sustainable and successful business from the ground up.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently serve as the Controller of our company. My years in the corporate world provided me with valuable financial experience, which allowed me to step out on my own with confidence. Thanks to my financial background, I have been able to support the company’s financial growth, while my husband focuses on expanding our customer base.
What sets us apart is our full commitment to preserving strong relationships with both our customers and vendors. Above all, we value our reputation, which is why we operate with honesty, transparency, and integrity in everything we do.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Even though I’m very sociable, public speaking still makes me nervous and gives me anxiety—something most people are surprised to hear.
