Meet Marcos Liberato of International Montessori Kids center in Deerfield Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcos Liberato.

Marcos, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have a degree in Production Engineering and had been working on the Financial Market and in consulting firms back in Brazil and South America.

After 8 years working in the market and getting my Executive MBA, I decided that it was time to start my own business but I would like not only to have a business but also to be a change in people lives. In 6 months of researching, I figured out that preschool should be the business I could make. This will give the difference in the community and so I decided to move to US and start this project.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your first business will always be a challenge, start a new business in a country where you never work or lived before is even harder. However, I came from Brazil, where being an entrepreneur is such a hard process and here in US all the license and development process is a lot easier, different but easier.

There were some people in the beginning who knows I was new in the country and tried to get advantage on me, sometimes I could avoid it but sometimes don’t. As an advice for who is starting I would say, keep your mind focused in your goal and not in the issues on the way, this will make you move on when most of the people would stop their projects.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the International Montessori Kids center story. Tell us more about the business.
The Montessori curriculum was chosen after analyzing each kind of the curriculums available in the market but we also found out all the Montessori preschools are focused on high-income families. So, I decided to develop what we call: “The Efficient Montessori Preschool”, the first Montessori with the curriculum that makes more sense for us and I would like to have my own children studying in this kind of school. The name “Efficient” comes from my background in process optimization that was applied inside the classroom and on our management procedures after getting my credentials in Child Development Associate (CDA), National Administrator’s Credential and Florida Director Credential. Everything to provide a good quality education for the community.

The Deerfield Beach unit is being a success and now we are starting our expansion project to a new branch. We still studying where will be the next location but our plan is to grow and bring more quality education for families around Florida.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
I would say in my point of view is about the country and not only the city, what I most like in US is the possibility to plan and execute a successful business plan. You can predict most of the scenarios, evaluate the possibilities and all state departments works very well, it is truly a great country for entrepreneurs.

What I like least, in my experience, is how hard it is to find ambitious people and I feel it because I want to be able to bring our Efficient Montessori Education for our entire community. However, there is no way to do it but with people who have the desire to make the difference in other lives and in their own lives. It’s a long process but we are forming a great team with a strong organizational culture.
