Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Prieto.
Marcella, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I studied Fashion Merchandising at Florida State University which helped me land a buying job at Macy’s Corporate in New York. After years of experience as a buyer in travel retail, I decided there was a need for a specialty boutique in the heart of Pinecrest. My beloved pup Cocoa and I set out to find the perfect little spot where we could offer our expertise while offering great fashion at great value. We’re still going strong more than nine years in at our brick and mortar location while simultaneously expanding into e-commerce.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like most businesses starting out, the challenge I was confronted with was getting the word out and establishing my customer base.
Cocoa Couture Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I personally have a high passion for fashion that I believe translates to my collections I offer year-round. To put it another way, I like to strike a fine balance between practical, meaning every day fashion to event driven wear for very specific occasions. I do this with price in mind without sacrificing quality. Additionally, knowing my customer base and their habits, I’m able to buy accordingly, setting me apart from other boutiques in Miami. In synthesis, this is how I differentiate myself from the competition.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Waking up and loving what I do is my definition of success. My criteria are simple- I want to offer my customers fashion that feels and looks fabulous at great prices. If they keep coming back and if I continue to be happy, I’ve been successful.
