Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Rubin.
Marc, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My dad’s father moved to South Florida in 1926 purchasing three hotels. He passed in 1958 on the handball courts at Flamingo Park (the courts are named after him). My father was attending the University of Miami in 1960 -61 and met my mom on Miami Beach. They married in in 1962 and then my father joined my mother’s father in the funeral business, His name was Leonard Zilbert (president of Riverside Chapels in New York and Florida). My father then became Vice President of Riverside and they left and opened Rubin-Zilbert Chapels. Rubin and Zilbert Chapels joined with Levitt-Weinstein along with the Blasberg Chapel. I joined the firm after graduating North Miami Beach High School in 1981.
My story is in 1981, I went to Funeral School and became a funeral director passing both state and national boards. I ran various funeral home locations for about 10 years including a combination facility of a cemetery with a funeral home on the grounds. I then went over to the preplanning side of the business and have been there for over 20 years. I am currently the Area Sales Director for Levitt-Weinstein.
I pride myself on building the business the old fashioned way though networking. I am very involved in the community. I am accredited with taking our Beth David Cemetery and making it the only boutique cemetery in South Florida and as far as I know in the country.
I also specialize in high end private estates and mausoleums that can be designed and built anywhere in the country. I sit down with families just like a wealth management advisor and develop a plan to meet the customer’s needs. Based on a variety of factors.
I consider myself a funeral and cemetery architect as well as an advisor/concierge that fills a void in the market place. Consumers can reach out to me with very complex situations and I can resolve them based on what is best for them and their family. I even go as far as to help them with all their estate planning needs in making sure they have the right financial advisor as well as the right attorney and CPA. These things can get very complex so with all my three generations of experience and with my family being in this community for over 90 years is a big benefit for me.
Has it been a smooth road?
Roads are never smooth as there are many obstacles along the way. I once had to take over a funeral home that was struggling with business because of a bad manager and build it back up.
I had to entrench myself into the community, meeting all the movers and shakers to increase our call volume. I was able to do it in just over a year.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapels and Cemeteries story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in designing people’s personal life-long legacies and making them a reality. Personalization and customization. Finding what it really is people want to get out of there funeral and cemetery plans. Meeting customers’ needs and being there for them.
