Meet Lydia Lizano of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Lizano.

Hi Lydia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been fascinated by what helps people heal.

Long before I became a therapist, I found myself asking bigger questions about why we suffer, what allows us to change, and how we cultivate a life that feels truly connected and meaningful. That curiosity eventually became my life’s work.
Today, I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Certified Sex Therapist, Yoga and Meditation Instructor, and Yoga Psychology Certified practitioner. For more than 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals and couples navigate life’s challenges by bringing together the worlds of psychology, yoga, and somatic healing.

One of the most transformative seasons of my life came in my mid-thirties, when I found myself struggling with anxiety, confusion, and a growing sense of disconnection from myself. Although I was already working in the mental health field, I realized that understanding healing intellectually wasn’t enough; I needed to experience it personally. Through yoga, meditation, and dedicated inner work, I discovered something that forever changed my life: lasting healing doesn’t happen by focusing only on the mind or only on the body. It happens when we nurture both.

That experience reshaped not only my personal life but also my professional path. It inspired me to expand beyond traditional psychotherapy and integrate yoga therapy, somatic psychology, and later, clinical sexology into my practice. Along the way, I came to recognize something I believe many of us were never taught: that sexual health is an essential part of our overall well-being. When we care for our emotional health, our physical body, our relationships, and our sexuality together, we create space for deeper, more sustainable healing.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to lead workshops, yoga teacher trainings, corporate wellness programs, and international retreats, witnessing incredible transformations as people reconnect with themselves in new and meaningful ways. Whether I’m sitting with someone in a therapy session or guiding a group through meditation on retreat, my intention is always the same: to create a space where people feel safe enough to slow down, become curious, and reconnect with who they truly are.

I don’t believe we have to choose between science and spirituality, between psychology and the body, or between emotional and sexual wellness. My work lives at the intersection of all of them, because that’s where I believe lasting transformation begins.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, I feel incredibly grateful for the path I’ve been given. My journey has been one of steady growth, meaningful opportunities, and a genuine love for learning. Like most entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals, there have certainly been moments that stretched me, challenged me, and encouraged me to grow.

One of the most significant turning points came in my mid-thirties, when I found myself navigating anxiety, confusion, and self-doubt. Although I was helping others professionally, I realized I needed to deepen my own healing. Yoga, meditation, and dedicated inner work became the catalyst for a profound personal transformation. That experience taught me that healing isn’t simply about changing our thoughts; it’s about creating harmony between the mind and the body.

Those lessons didn’t just change my life; they transformed my practice. They inspired me to expand beyond traditional psychotherapy and integrate yoga therapy, somatic psychology, and clinical sexology into my work. Today, I help clients approach healing from a more holistic perspective, recognizing that emotional well-being, physical health, and sexual wellness are all deeply interconnected.

Looking back, I don’t see those challenges as obstacles. I see them as gifts that deepened my compassion, strengthened my purpose, and ultimately led me to create the practice I have today.

I don’t believe healing is about becoming someone else. It’s about remembering who you’ve always been beneath the fear, stress, expectations, and pain. Every step of my own journey has reinforced that belief, and it’s a privilege to help others rediscover that within themselves.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in helping people reconnect with themselves through an integrated approach that combines talk therapy, sex therapy, and yoga therapy. While each of these disciplines is powerful on its own, I’ve found that true and lasting transformation happens when we stop treating the mind and body as separate. My work is rooted in the belief that emotional health, physical well-being, relationships, and sexual wellness are deeply interconnected.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Sex Therapist, Yoga and Meditation Instructor, and Yoga Psychology Certified practitioner, I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, intimacy concerns, life transitions, and personal growth. Whether someone comes to me carrying emotional pain, feeling disconnected from their body, or longing for deeper intimacy, my goal is always the same: to help them create a life that feels more authentic, connected, and aligned.

What I’m probably best known for is creating a space where people feel genuinely safe exploring the parts of themselves they’ve hidden or struggled to understand. I believe healing begins the moment we feel seen without judgment. Some clients come seeking relief from anxiety, others are looking to strengthen their relationships or reconnect with their sexuality, and many simply know that something feels disconnected. Together, we gently uncover the root of those experiences and create meaningful, sustainable change.

What I’m most proud of isn’t any one accomplishment, it’s witnessing the transformation that unfolds when people begin trusting themselves again. Watching someone rediscover joy, reconnect with their body, heal a relationship, or move beyond years of shame and self-doubt is an incredible privilege. Those moments remind me why I chose this profession.
What sets my work apart is the integration of science and embodiment. I don’t believe we have to choose between psychology and the body, or between evidence-based therapy and practices that cultivate presence and self-awareness. My work lives at the intersection of clinical psychology, yoga therapy, somatic healing, and sexual wellness because I believe that’s where the deepest and most lasting transformation begins.

More than anything, I hope every person who works with me leaves feeling empowered; not because I gave them the answers, but because they rediscovered the wisdom that was already within them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve always believed that what many people call luck is often the beautiful intersection of preparation, faith, and being willing to say yes when opportunities arise.

I’ve certainly experienced moments that felt serendipitous: meeting the right teacher at the right time, discovering practices that transformed my life, or crossing paths with people who opened doors I never knew existed. Looking back, those moments feel like gifts. But I also know they were possible because I had spent years doing the inner work, staying curious, and continuing to invest in my personal and professional growth.

I don’t tend to think in terms of “good luck” or “bad luck.” Life naturally brings seasons of ease and seasons of challenge, and each has taught me something valuable. Some of my greatest growth has come from experiences I never would have chosen, while some of my biggest opportunities arrived unexpectedly. Both have shaped the person and therapist I am today.

If anything, I’ve learned to trust life’s timing. Not every opportunity arrives when we expect it, and not every closed door is a loss. Sometimes it’s simply creating space for something that’s more aligned with who we’re becoming.

Today, I feel incredibly fortunate to do work that I genuinely love. Looking back, I realize that what many people might call luck has often felt like grace. It has been nurtured by years of commitment, continual learning, faith, and a willingness to keep evolving. I’ve come to believe that grace often looks like luck from the outside.
