Today, we’d like to introduce you to Luis Gomez.
Hi Luis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Luis Gomez, I was born in Venezuela and have been living in Miami since 2021. Since I was 6 years old, I have been in contact with sports, first as an active participant and then as a sports manager.
Thanks to everything that sport has given me, the tools to develop myself and my way of being. I would like to be able to transfer all this knowledge so that the families that live in my community can benefit and generate added value for everyone who is part of our ecosystem and becomes a multiplying factor.
With our soccer academy, we try to solve problems like:
-Sedentary lifestyle
-Bad communication
-Delfishness
-Motor skills
-Lack of role models
We are proud of helping many families not only to teach their children soccer but to be able to develop as good people and create a family environment where they can be comfortable and sure that they can reach their full potential as people in the future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way included securing funding for equipment and facilities, finding qualified coaches and staff, attracting players, and building a reputation in the competitive soccer market in Miami.
Additionally, navigating the administrative and logistical aspects of running a soccer academy with limited resources proved to be challenging. Overall, perseverance, creativity, and dedication were key to overcoming these obstacles and achieving success.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sportunity Stars Soccer Academy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My brand or company name captures our essence as an entity. Sportunity: means a mix between Sports & Opportunities. The opportunities that sports can bring to a person.
Our goal is to canalize all the benefits that sports can offer to society through products and services tailored to our users. In this particular case our soccer academy for children between 3 and 11 years old in Miami, Florida. Sports can teach important lessons about different topics, not just soccer.
For example:
1. Respect your rival.
2. Follow the rules.
3. Manage your time.
4. Values.
5. Friendship.
6. Perseverance.
7. Resilience.
We also create a charity program called “Become a Soccer Player” that offers inclusive soccer experiences, to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play, learn, and grow through soccer, irrespective of their life circumstances, background, or abilities. Fully funded by sponsorships and volunteers.
Our mission is to extend the enriching experience of soccer to every child, allowing them to partake in the joy of the sport and harvest its valuable life lessons and health benefits. We personally tailor exercises to suit individual needs, ensuring everyone can participate and feel valued.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I would say, traveling around the country (Venezuela), with my family, visiting different landmarks and also sharing moments with them. That of course included some opportunities visiting sports venues and if we were lucky watch a game, which started the spark of my love for sports that persists nowadays.
